Henry Cavill’s highly anticipated Highlander reboot will be delayed because the actor was injured during pre-production (via The Hollywood Reporter). The movie was set to begin filming in the coming weeks, but its principal photography has been pushed to early 2026 now.
Chad Stahelski, best known for the John Wick franchise, will helm the feature, and Dave Bautista is set to play the Kurgan. In an interview with Collider, Bautista said, “The action is on par with John Wick,” which explains Cavill’s injury, as the demands must have been so intense that he ended up hurting himself.
Here’s an overview of other cast members who have been announced for the upcoming Highlander.
Now let’s look at what else Bautista said about the project, and whether Cavill’s leading role will outperform his previous movies in terms of physicality, fight scenes, and action.
Dave Bautista Hypes Up Henry Cavill Starrer Highlander
MCU star Dave Bautista’s passion for the Highlander reboot is impossible to ignore! While speaking to Collider, he revealed that Kurgan was a dream role for over a decade. Bautista admitted that his journey to landing the part was long, and now, he couldn’t stop showering it with praise.
I was so blown away by the script because, without saying too much, this is such a great reboot. We’re still paying tribute and giving a nod to the original, but making it new and fresh and exciting, and also just universe-building. It’s just so much bigger than the original.
Bautista even emphasized that audiences shouldn’t expect a carbon copy of the 1986 classic because “it’s just different, but still the same.” The WWE star also claimed that it is “an updated, high-speed version of the Highlander.” So, given his enthusiasm, the production delay feels less like a setback and more like a chance for everyone to regroup and deliver something truly epic!
Will Henry Cavill’s Highlander Swordsfights Surpass His Past Action Roles?
Henry Cavill has wielded the sword as Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher, had hand-to-hand combat in Mission: Impossible – Fallout, and donned the red cape as our Man of Steel. So, he’s certainly built a reputation as one of the industry’s most physically agile performers.
Yet, Cavill himself believes that in Highlander, things will be next level! During the 2024 Cinema Con (via THR), he said, “If you think you’ve seen me do sword work before, you haven’t seen anything yet.” He wasn’t bragging here, but highlighting months of preparation and hard work.
Moreover, Chad Stahelski’s involvement changes everything, because after his work in John Wick, we know that Cavill won’t just be swinging swords around, but embodying the philosophy of a true swordsman and combatant!
So, do you think this remake of Highlander is going to be any good after hearing about Cavill’s dedication and Dave Bautista’s praise? Or do you feel it’s a lost cause?
