Helluva Boss: Special Episode: What Does Blitzo Intend to Do With Stolas’ Ancient Book?

Helluva Boss reboot pilot, Mission: Zero, gives a glimpse into how Blitzo acquired Stolas’ ancient book and what he plans to do with it. Released alongside the two existing seasons on Prime Video, the episode is a fresh introduction into the chaotic world of IMP (Immediate Murder Professionals), the imp-run assassination company in Hell.

The episode follows Blitzo explaining his vision for IMP to Millie and Moxxie. And when Millie asks how they’ll travel to Earth to complete assassinations, Blitzo unveils the stolen grimoire from Stolas. The grimoire contains the knowledge and power necessary to open a portal to Earth, enabling the team to execute their jobs beyond the confines of Hell.

Helluva Boss Reboot Pilot, Mission: Zero Recap

The Helluva Boss reboot pilot, Mission: Zero, kicks off with Blitzo outlining his plans for IMP (Immediate Murder Professionals) to a married couple, Millie and Moxxie.

He explains that imps, often looked down upon in Hell for handling spirits, can instead use their skills to target truly corrupt humans as assassins. Moxxie raises concerns about avoiding witnesses, while Millie bluntly suggests eliminating everyone, leaving no loose ends.

The episode also introduces Loona, Blitzo’s adopted daughter and receptionist, as Blitzo explains how he got the grimoire from Stolas. She reminds him of a call from Stolas, who confronts Blitzo about the stolen book, suggesting that he may have taken it as an excuse to see Stolas again.

However, after Stolas pays him a brief visit to his office, a flashback shows how Blitzo actually stole the Grimoire and even told Stolas’ wife, Stella, of their affair. But he persuades Stolas to let him keep the book a bit longer.

With the Grimoire, IMP opens a portal to Earth and sets off on its assassination job, ending the pilot on a thrilling note.

Mission: Zero succeeds in the role it was meant to play: serving as a proper introduction for new audiences. It effectively establishes the characters, highlights their distinct personalities, and lays a foundation that feels in line with their arcs in the future.

How the Helluva Boss Reboot Pilot Stands Out from the Original

Prime Video’s release of Helluva Boss’ Mission: Zero as a reboot pilot has sparked plenty of discussion. While the 2019 YouTube pilot helped launch the series, creator Vivienne Medrano has reportedly clarified that it isn’t truly canon (MovieWeb), unlike this new episode, which feels like a definitive start.

The original pilot leaned heavily on random gags, side jokes, and messy character beats. Moxxie mistakenly targeting a boy, Loona’s disinterest, and Blitzo’s overbearing antics all added chaos, but it didn’t fully set the tone for what the series would become. Even Stolas’ role felt off.

Mission: Zero, on the other hand, feels firmly in line with the actual show. The humor lands without cutaway distractions, the character roles are sharply defined, and Stolas’ involvement connects smoothly with the larger story.

The improved animation and tighter storytelling make this reboot not just a replacement, but an upgrade, almost like the missing Episode 1 the series always needed.

Mission: Zero has received a positive response from fans as they await Helluva Boss Season 3.

What do you think? Does Mission: Zero finally deliver the introduction the series deserved, or do you still have a soft spot for the original pilot?
