Harry Potter star Jessie Cave, who played the role of Lavender Brown in the films, says she was not allowed to join a Harry Potter fan convention because of her OnlyFans account. Cave, who played the role of Ron’s clingy girlfriend in three films, revealed that she lost the booking after organizers told her the platform was not “family-friendly.”

The actress shared her frustration on her Substack, explaining that she does not post explicit or s*xual content and mainly uploads light-hearted videos, like playing with her hair. Jessie Cave pointed out that many actors who attend such conventions have done nude or s*x scenes in movies and television, yet they are not banned.

I found out that I didn’t get booked for a Harry Potter convention recently, as I’m now doing OnlyFans. They explained it was because it’s a ‘family show and OnlyFans is affiliated with porn.’

This was baffling to me as some actors who do conventions (most actors, actually) have done TV and films in which they’ve done sex scenes and nudity. I’m just playing with my hair!

The news shared by EW has sparked debate among fans and fellow Potterheads, with some supporting the convention’s choice while others argue that Jessie Cave is being judged for something harmless. The incident raises questions about discrimination against actors using alternative platforms for financial stability.

Jessie Cave Previously Called Her Decision to Join OnlyFans “Liberating”

While the Harry Potter star is now facing discrimination for her OnlyFans, Jessie Cave previously explained joining the 18+ platform because she wanted more freedom in her career and life. Which is why, talking about it on her podcast Before We Break Up Again

, which she co-hosts with her partner Alfie Brown, Cave explained that the move felt “liberating.”

For the actress, it was less about following trends and more about breaking away from the usual pressures that come with being an actress. She revealed that she often received messages about her hair, which people found unique and interesting. So, instead of ignoring those comments, she decided to embrace them.

I just noticed that I always just get comments. They’re never, like, s*xually depraved or lascivious. It’s never dirty comments, but I do get lots of interest in the hair thing and I just thought, ‘F— it, I’m going to do something that is very niche.’

I really am choosing to think of this as an empowering moment for me because I have been this very straight, prim actress for a lot of my career and this is very much a way of me saying, ‘Okay, I’m doing something that is not normal.’ This is weird and me and a bit kinky. And why not?

Cave made it clear that her content on OnlyFans isn’t s*xual or explicit, but instead focuses on something as simple as playing with her hair. She wanted to create something niche and different, rather than following the usual expectations of her career. For Jessie Cave, this step was about self-expression. She called it “weird and a bit kinky,” but also empowering.

The Harry Potter Star Confessed to Having a Horrible Time on Set

Meanwhile, reflecting on her on-set experience from the Harry Potter films, Jessie Cave once admitted that it wasn’t always pleasant. Yes, she did beat over 7,000 other actors to land the role of Lavender Brown, but once she joined the films, things weren’t as magical as she expected. In fact, things changed when she gained some weight during filming.

Speaking with The Independent, Cave said that she was treated differently and began to feel insecure. She explained that the movie industry at that time was very strict about appearances. Most actresses were expected to stay a size eight or smaller, and any change was judged harshly. Which is why Cave felt invisible on set, and that treatment left a lasting effect on her body image.

I was treated like a different species. It was horrible. It was probably more me and my insecurity, knowing that I wasn’t fitting into the same size jeans, but it wasn’t a time where actresses were any bigger than a size eight.

She still struggles with issues about weight and work, which she calls “so messed up”. Because of that experience, Jessie Cave now has mixed feelings about the acting world. She told Metro UK that she would not allow her own children to work in films until they are adults. She believes the industry can be harmful to young actors.

The stage mum in me, secretly yes of course. I want my children to be stars. But there is no money in the world that could be paid to let them do it. No chance in hell would they do a job until they are fully fledged adults.

I’ve worked with enough child actors and had enough experience in the industry to see how devastating it can be for your development.

For now, Jessie Cave chooses to protect her children from the same struggles she faced as a young adult growing up on set. Meanwhile, that same toxicity reappeared in her life, as Cave got barred from a Harry Potter fan convention due to her professional choices.
