Halo: Combat Evolved Remake Leak Teases Sprint, Full Redesign, and a Shocking PS5 Launch

By John Garcia 10/15/2025

We have more leaks about the upcoming rumored Halo: Combat Evolved remake, and it seems like it might include sprint & “modern gameplay mechanics“. We previously got hints that it couldn’t be just a graphical remaster but a full remake of the 2001 classic. Now that we have new details, they’re already making some fans worry.

I can definitely confirm the Halo CE Remake will have sprint & "modern gameplay mechanics".

I'm of the belief it's gameplay will be similar to the new Halo Multiplayer game, which I also believe is Halo 7's MP.

What’s the issue here? Well, fans think that adding a sprint mechanic to the remake would change the gameplay to a degree where it takes away from what Halo is supposed to be. And we don’t even know what other “modern features” are planned.

Leaks Hint at a Full Remake of Halo: Combat Evolved That Could Come to the PS5

Halo Leaks confirmed on October 13 that “the Halo CE Remake will have sprint and modern gameplay mechanics.” That’s on top of the previous leak that it would have a fully redesigned structure similar to Capcom’s Resident Evil

remakes.

I've got no idea if the remake will make use of AI or not, I'd assume it will based off Microsoft's recent requirements regarding it.

Keep in mind a dev using AI properly is not the same way as some random dude generating a "AI generated asset" and calling it a day.

The project is reportedly being co-developed by Halo Studios and Abstraction, a Dutch developer acquired by Virtuos in 2024. Abstraction also worked on Halo: The Master Chief Collection and is now leading the remake’s production with a hybrid engine that brings the classic Halo technology with Unreal Engine 5.

Yes that's correct, it's a full remake similar to the Resident Evil remakes.

So instead of just remastering the graphics and visual quality, the developers are said to be rebuilding the game from the ground up. And if the leaks are accurate, this remake could even become the first Halo title to launch on PlayStation 5, in addition to Xbox Series X/S and PC.

But the addition of sprinting and the aforementioned “modern features” does raise a few eyebrows. Fans are arguing that the sprinting changes the deliberate pacing and tactical flow that was a big part of the original game, and that this change will take away from the classic Halo feel.

When Can We Expect More News About the Remake?

All signs point to October 24, 2025, as the date to watch. The Halo World Championship in Seattle will feature multiple announcements from Halo Studios, including a “deep dive” panel on the future of the franchise. Halo will also celebrate its 25th anniversary in November 2026, potentially making it one of Microsoft’s flagship titles for next year.

If the Halo CE Remake is gonna have sprint can they at least also add actual fun mechanics like dual wielding pic.twitter.com/BIlD3DjkHm

For now, Microsoft has yet to issue any official statement, and all reports remain unconfirmed. Still, the consistency of leaks across multiple sources does give us reasons to believe that this long-awaited project is finally on the horizon.

The biggest question now is: Can a Halo: Combat Evolved remake really evolve without losing what made it legendary in the first place? We’ll have to see exactly what the inclusion of sprint and other modern mechanics is about.
