Game of Thrones alum Charles Dance is once again getting candid about his anti-Israel stance. This time around, though, he even demanded that he wants England and France to apologize for the Balfour Declaration, which took place more than a century ago, in 1917. In a recent interview with The Telegraph, he brought up the British imperial ambition, saying,
Even if [the war] stopped tomorrow, there would not be peace in the Middle East until the Balfour Declaration is unpicked. France and England need to announce: ‘Sorry, we f—-d up.’
In a public statement by the British government released during the First World War, the Balfour Déclaration supported the establishment of a national home for the Jewish people in Palestine. The British Foreign Secretary Arthur Balfour to Lord Rothschild issued it on November 2, 1917, with the promise that the best endeavours would be used to facilitate this goal.
It’s worth noting that, at the time, the declaration also stated that nothing should prejudice the civil and religious rights of existing non-Jewish communities in Palestine. However, the declaration has inevitably since become a source of ongoing conflict and controversies due to the subsequent creation of Israel and the unresolved issue of Palestinian statehood.

Charles Dance, for one, has been against the Balfour Declaration due to the numerous controversies attached to it. Even as the interviewer tried to object during his interview with The Telegraph that the Jewish people need a homeland too, his candid response was,
It’s very complicated. And no, indeed [there wasn’t anywhere for them to go]. But it’s very apparent, the mess that was created.
Fortunately for him, fans are siding with the GoT star with this one, as he condemned the decision that supported the establishment of a Jewish homeland. Taking to X, here’s how they extended their support to him:

Of course, numerous Israel supporters also piled in to disapprove of The Imitation Game actor’s comments, since every conflict has two sides, and the ongoing conflict in Gaza is no exception. But irrespective of whatever they might say, this isn’t the first time that Dance has unhesitantly expressed his support for the afflicted Palestinian people.
Charles Dance Has Been Pretty Vocal About His Anti-Israel Stance
In his interview with The Telegraph, Charles Dance confessed that he was pretty “obsessed” with the situation in Gaza, like “anyone with a conscience should be,” once again siding with Palestine in his anti-Israel stance. He said,
I’m a bit obsessed at the moment with what’s happening in the Middle East. Anyone with a conscience should be.
Weeks after Israel waged war on the Palestinian people following the attacks on October 7, 2023, the actor unhesitantly stood up to join the ranks of the celebrities who have since been vocally condemning the Jewish state.
He was also one of the lifesavers to have signed the open letter under the Artists for Palestine banner, calling for an immediate ceasefire, aid to the oppressed and suffering civilians in the Gaza Strip, and an end to America’s support to Israel. At the Palestine Festival of Literature, he also condemned Israel’s genocide on the Palestinians (via The Hollywood Reporter).
All in all, as the occupation continues “starving the people of Gaza to death and contemplating the forced removal of millions of Palestinians from the Strip,” as alleged in the letter from 31 Israeli artists to The Guardian, Charles Dance proudly stands among the people against this entire conflict and sides with a peaceful end to the same.
