Every Keanu Reeves Comedy Movie, Ranked Worst to Best

By Robert Martinez 10/16/2025

Keanu Reeves might be best known for firing guns, bending bullets, and breaking into bad*ss mode, but hold up, he’s about to sprinkle a little angel dust on Hollywood with Good Fortune (2025). In this new supernatural comedy, Keanu plays Gabriel, a well-meaning but clumsy guardian angel who meddles in the lives of a struggling gig worker and a wealthy tech bro.

But this isn’t Keanu’s first dance with laughs. Before he became an action legend, he was already building a solid comedy portfolio full of heart, weirdness, and moments that made us smile.

From Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure vibes to charming cameos and rom-com setups, there’s a lot more to Reeves than his John Wick face. So, let’s roll through every Keanu Reeves comedy movie, ranked.

8. Always Be My Maybe (2019)

Always Be My Maybe is a Netflix rom-com directed by Nahnatchka Khan and written by Ali Wong, Randall Park, and Michael Golamco. It follows childhood best friends Sasha (Wong) and Marcus (Park), who reconnect years later after growing apart, she’s now a celebrity chef, and he’s still chilling in San Francisco, fixing air conditioners and playing in a band.

Their chemistry is undeniable, but things get hilariously complicated when Sasha starts dating none other than Keanu Reeves. He plays a heightened, ultra-spiritual version of himself. Reeves’s cameo lasts only a few minutes, but he was committed and it completely steals the movie. His scene was so iconic it became a staple meme across the internet.

From his dramatic slow-motion entrance to his over-the-top lines about “feeding the poor with empathy,” he’s pure chaotic gold. It’s Reeves poking fun at his own coolness, reminding everyone that behind the action hero is a guy who’s totally in on the joke.

Always Be My Maybe is now streaming on Netflix.

7. I Love You to Death (1990)

I Love You to Death dropped in 1990, directed by Lawrence Kasdan. It’s a dark comedy based on a wild true story out of Pennsylvania, where a wife tries (over and over) to kill her cheating husband.

The cast is stacked: Kevin Kline plays the unfaithful pizza-parlor owner Joey Boca; Tracey Ullman is his wife Rosalie; River Phoenix is the lovesick busboy Devo; Joan Plowright is Rosalie’s disapproving mother, and, among others, Keanu Reeves plays Marlon James, one of the hitman-cousin duo.

Keanu’s role isn’t the lead, but it’s memorable. Marlon is partnered with his cousin Harlan (William Hurt) in Rosalie’s attempt to off Joey. They’re “incompetent, drug-addled” assassins whose cluelessness adds to the chaos. Joey survives poisoning, bombs, bullets (you name it), and Reeves helps deliver on that absurd, comedic misfire energy.

I Love You to Death is the kind of film that’s weird, messy, hilarious, and morbid all at once. Keanu isn’t the heart of the story, but his cameo-hitman role shows off his early comedy instincts. He blends into this crazy ensemble, leaning into the ridiculous and making the absurd feel even more fun.

I Love You to Death is available to rent on Apple TV+.

6. Destination Wedding (2018)

Destination Wedding came out in 2018. It’s a romantic comedy-drama written & directed by Victor Levin. The film stars Keanu Reeves and Winona Ryder as the two leads.

In the movie, they meet by accident at the airport, end up at the same destination wedding in Paso Robles, California, and find themselves forced together. From adjoining rooms, shared car rides, to rehearsal dinners, and more. They’re people who really hate weddings, love, and most people around them.

Keanu plays Frank, a pretty grumpy, misanthropic guy who doesn’t believe much in the romantic stuff. He’s kind of world-weary, cynical, always ready to snap, to judge… and hilariously so. He and Winona’s character, Lindsay, butt heads a lot, but slowly they begin to warm up to each other as well.

All summed up, Destination Wedding is basically enemies-to-lovers for people who hate small talk. Reeves shows off that he can carry comedy without being loud, just by being this kind of grumpy, sarcastic romantic lead. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but it has its charm, especially if you like “love with a side of irritation.”

Destination Wedding is available to rent on Apple TV+.

5. Something’s Gotta Give (2003)

Something’s Gotta Give is a 2003 romantic-comedy-drama written, produced, and directed by Nancy Meyers. The movie stars Jack Nicholson as Harry Sanborn, a 60-something playboy who only dates younger women, and Diane Keaton as Erica Barry, a Broadway playwright in her 50s who’s divorced and successful. Supporting cast includes Amanda Peet, Frances McDormand, Jon Favreau, and others.

The plot follows Harry’s arrival at Marin’s mother, Erica’s, beach house in the Hamptons for a weekend. He has chest pains and is forced to stay for rest. Complications arise when Erica ends up caring for him. Feelings get mixed, and hearts get involved.

Keanu Reeves plays Dr. Julian Mercer, Harry’s doctor. Julian is cool, respectful, and also kind of crushing on Erica Barry. He’s that “younger guy who admires her work” type, providing a romantic subplot (and foil) to Harry’s wild, older-playboy energy.

In the end, Something’s Gotta Give is less about who ends up with whom and more about how people change, connect, and admit they want something more honest than they thought they needed. Keanu’s Julian isn’t the center of the storm, but he’s a meaningful part of the comedic/romantic tension, showing Keanu can play soft-spoken romantic energy just as well as he can do explosions.

Something’s Gotta Give is currently available to rent on Apple TV+.

4. Bill & Ted movie series

The Bill & Ted saga is where Keanu Reeves first proved he could totally own a comedy while still being cool as ice. Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure (1989), directed by Stephen Herek, drops us into the world of two lovable slackers who can barely pass history.

They discover a time-traveling phone booth that brings Abraham Lincoln, Napoleon, and Joan of Arc straight into their high school chaos. Reeves’ Ted Logan is all chill, clueless charm, making every goofy moment feel effortless.

Two years later, Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey (1991) cranks the absurdity to the max: Death becomes a dance-off nemesis, evil robot doubles wreak havoc, and the afterlife turns into pure comedy gold.

Reeves keeps Ted totally relatable even in the madness, showing he can nail comedy in the weirdest, most chaotic scenarios. These films made him a cult comedy icon, making “be excellent to each other” forever legendary.

Fast forward to 2020, and the saga continues with Bill & Ted Face the Music. Now middle-aged, Bill and Ted are still struggling to write the song that will literally save the universe. Directed by Dean Parisot and penned by the original duo Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon, Keanu and Alex Winter return as everyone’s favorite time-traveling slackers.

Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey, and Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey are available to stream on Fubo TV.

3. Keanu (2016)

Keanu (2016) is straight-up chaos in the best way. Directed by Peter Atencio, this marks the first feature film collaboration between Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele after their hit sketch series Key & Peele. Key & Peele play Rell and Clarence, two regular guys who go full undercover in a dangerous gang just to rescue a kitten named Keanu.

Guns, disguises, ridiculous stunts, it’s nonstop absurdity, and somehow it all works. Keanu Reeves pops in to voice the kitten, and even in a few short moments, he steals the scene with his calm, deadpan charm.

The movie is ridiculous, over-the-top, and totally self-aware, packed with Key & Peele’s signature physical comedy and snappy jokes. But underneath all the madness, it’s also sweet. The story about friendship, loyalty, and going to ridiculous lengths for someone (or some cat) you care about.

Keanu is available to rent on Apple TV+.

2. Much Ado About Nothing (1993)

Much Ado About Nothing (1993) is Kenneth Branagh’s sunny, witty spin on Shakespeare, set in gorgeous Tuscany. The story juggles two love plots: the sharp, playful banter between Benedick and Beatrice and Hero and Claudio’s sweet, classic romance.

Keanu Reeves pops in as Don John, the brooding and scheming half-brother of Don Pedro, trying to ruin the wedding vibes, a pretty big switch-up from his usual roles. He nails the sullen, plotting energy, making the “villain” fun to watch.

The cast is stacked, with Branagh, Emma Thompson, Kate Beckinsale, Robert Sean Leonard, Denzel Washington including Michael Keaton. The film is packed with charm, clever humor, and just enough drama to keep things spicy. Light, funny, and totally timeless, this adaptation proves Shakespeare can be cool, chaotic, and full of laughs and yes, Reeves fits right in.

Much Ado About Nothing is available to rent on Apple TV+.

1. Toy Story 4 (2019)

Toy Story 4 (2019) isn’t just another Pixar sequel; it’s a full-on emotional joyride that proves Woody, Buzz, and the gang still know how to steal the show. The movie, directed by Josh Cooley, starts with Bonnie struggling to adjust to kindergarten, leading her to craft Forky, a literal spork with an existential crisis. Naturally, chaos ensues.

Woody takes it upon himself to help Forky accept life as a toy, which leads the gang on a road trip full of unexpected twists, new faces, and classic Toy Story humor. Along the way, Woody reconnects with Bo Peep, now a fierce, independent adventurer, forcing him to confront his own sense of purpose.

And then there’s Keanu Reeves as Duke Caboom, a Canadian stuntman toy with serious flair and way too much confidence for a little plastic body. His deadpan delivery, over-the-top stunts, and hilarious pride instantly make him a scene-stealer. From slow-motion motorcycle jumps to sarcastic quips, Duke Caboom perfectly blends action and comedy for kids and adults alike.

With a stellar voice cast including Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, and Tony Hale, Toy Story 4 balances laughs, thrills, and heart. It’s a story about growth, friendship, and finding where you belong, wrapped in Pixar’s trademark humor and emotion, and yes, Reeves makes it extra unforgettable.

Toy Story 4 is available to stream on Disney+.

And just when you thought Reeves had done it all, he’s back in Good Fortune (2025), hitting theaters on October 17. Directed by Aziz Ansari, he also stars in the movie alongside Seth Rogen, Keke Palmer, Sandra Oh, and Sherry Cola.
