Escapism Singer Joins Netflix’s Black Rabbit for Onscreen Moment

Netflix’s upcoming drama starring Jason Bateman and Jude Law, Black Rabbit, has just got a glamorous boost. Reportedly, the British hitmaker Raye is officially making her onscreen debut.

Known for her chart-toppers like You Don’t Know Me and Escapism, Raye will play herself in a cameo performance at the show’s central nightclub. Not only this, Raye will also bring her music to Black Rabbit, playing a cover of What a Difference a Day Makes to blend with the show’s vibe.

Reflecting on her debut, Raye shared her excitement (via Billboard)

I am very grateful to Netflix and the Black Rabbit team for inviting me to be a little part of this series. To Miss Laura Linney for having me, it was such a privilege to play a teeny tiny part under your vision. Reading my very first ever ‘on-screen’ lines, whilst staring into Jason Bateman’s eyes, is a life experience I will never forget, hahahah!

With three Grammy nominations, Raye’s presence in Black Rabbit will prove that she’s not only a powerhouse in music but also a rising star in the film industry.

What Is Black Rabbit All About?

Black Rabbit drops on Netflix on September 18, 2025, and this one is going to be your next must-watch thriller. This eight-episode miniseries will land all at once, making it a perfect weekend watch.

Black Rabbit follows a tale of two brothers whose lives are entangled with secrets, dangers, and drama. Jude Law plays Jake, a charismatic owner of a restaurant and VIP lounge that became the hottest spot in New York City. On the other side is Jason Bateman’s Vince, who suddenly returns and opens the old wounds.

The show highlights the chaotic theme of brotherhood that can go to great lengths to protect each other. Black Rabbit is set in Manhattan’s nightlife scene and promises glitz, chaos, and darkness. As Bateman puts it (via Netflix Tudum)

Everybody’s either got a sibling or a friendship where you love being with one another, but it’s kind of dangerous; where that person usually gets you in trouble, but they’re really exciting to be around.

Black Rabbit is executive produced by Law, Bateman, and created by King Richard’s Zach Baylin and Kate Susman. Also, Bateman steps into the director’s chair for the first two episodes.

Overall, the show doesn’t just portray the nightlife; it majorly focuses on family drama and how far a sibling bond can stretch before it breaks.

Our Verdict: How Raye Could Shake Up Black Rabbit’s Storyline

Raye’s debut in acting with Black Rabbit honestly feels like the kind of casting choice that can tilt the focus of the viewers from the entire atmosphere of a show. The show thrives on tension, shadows, and moral ambiguity, and Raye’s presence can lighten the darkness.

Moreover, Raye’s music thrives on vulnerability, raw emotions, and heartfelt storytelling, and we’re hoping she carries the same intensity to Black Rabbit. In the same aforementioned Billboard conversation, Raye shared her love for jazz greats like Dinah Washington,

I’m absolutely head over heels in love with Dinah Washington, who sang the version of this song I am most in love with. It’s always tough to cover a song sung by the irreplaceable inimitable voices of the jazz age, but I hope my love of the song shines through.

Well, she clearly promises to bring her artistry talent that will perfectly align with the show’s suffocating theme.
