English Teacher Season 2 Meet the Cast: Who Is Who In the Sitcom?

FX’s sitcom English Teacher is returning for a brand new season on September 25, 2025. The show premiered in September 2024 to positive reviews and was renewed for Season 2 in February 2025. Now, the show is all set to make a comeback, with Brian Jordan Alvarez leading the cast.

Besides starring as the lead character, Evan Marquez, Brian Jordan Alvarez is also the creator and executive producer of English Teacher. Keep reading to find out who else is a part of the ensemble cast and what role they play.

Brian Jordan Alvarez as English Teacher Evan Marquez

Brian Jordan Alvarez first gained recognition in the industry for writing, producing, directing, and starring in the five-part web comedy series The Gay and Wondrous Life of Caleb Gallo. He has since appeared in many TV shows such as Will & Grace, Life in Pieces, and Jane the Virgin. Earlier this year, he faced s*xual assault allegations from a former co-star.

Alvarez stars as Evan Marquez, an English teacher at Morrison-Hensley High School. Evan struggles to keep the fine line between his professional and personal lives from blurring as the public school continues to be a battleground for cultural and political topics.

Stephanie Koenig as Gwen Sanders

Stephanie Koenig created, directed, and starred in the web series, Stupid Idiots, which was acquired by Paramount Television and Anonymous Content later. That same year, she co-starred alongside Alvarez as Karen in The Gay and Wondrous Life of Caleb Gallo

In the FX sitcom, Koenig appears as Gwen Sanders, Evan’s best friend and fellow teacher at Morrison-Hensley High School. Gwen is in a relationship with Nick, an unemployed guy who is building a pool in his backyard. Gwen has disagreements with Nick and Evan in Season 1, but is united with both by the end of the season.

Enrico Colantoni as Grant Moretti

Enrico Colantoni is a Canadian actor and producer. He is most widely known for his roles in Galaxy Quest, Contagion, and Veronica Mars. He earned a Best Actor Gemini nomination for his role in the Canadian cop drama Flashpoint. He also starred alongside Steve Carell in the series Just Shoot Me!

Colantoni plays the role of Grant Moretti, the principal of Morrison-Hensley High School. Although he warns Evan against getting romantically involved with his fellow teachers at school, Grant is not an antagonistic character. He embodies the bureaucratic pressures and absurdities of school administration.

Sean Patton as Markie Hillridge

Sean Patton is a comedian and actor from New Orleans, Louisiana. He began his career as a stand-up comedian and has performed at major festivals like the Edinburgh Fringe, Melbourne International Comedy Festival, and SXSW, as mentioned on his personal site. He has made guest acting appearances in Comedy Central’s Inside Amy Schumer and TruTV’s Those Who Can’t.

Patton’s first role as a series regular came in English Teacher, in which he stars as Markie Hillridge, a brash gym teacher whose over-the-top demeanour provides standout laughs and unexpected plot turnarounds. Markie is someone with deeply held beliefs, but also empathy and a willingness to grow.

Carmen Christopher as Rick Santana

Carmen Christopher is a comedian and actor who has performed at The Second City, iO Theater, and Annoyance Theater (via First Avenue). His original special Carmen Christopher: Street Special is available to stream on Peacock. He has recurring roles in TV shows like The Bear, Search Party, and High Maintenance. He also writes and stars in Peacock’s Killing It.

In English Teacher, Christopher appears as Rick Santana, the school guidance counselor. Rick is often physically absent-minded and comically out of place. His side plots add eccentric flavor, providing levity and quirky commentary on his peers’ antics.
