Emmys 2025: What Did Dan Gilroy’s “I Have Friends Everywhere” Mean After Andor Win?

Dan Gilroy won an Emmy award at the Emmys 2025 for “Outstanding Writer For a Drama Series” for Andor. During his Emmy acceptance speech for the “Welcome to the Rebellion” episode, the writer gave a subtle nod to the show by saying, “I have friends everywhere.”

In the show, the line was a code that implied that they were a member of the Rebellion against the evil Galactic Empire. Being the brother of Andor creator Tony Gilroy, the Emmy winner had written 6 episodes for the Disney+ show.

Andor focused on Diego Luna’s Cassian Andor, trying to sabotage the plans for the Death Star and his contribution to the Rebellion.

This is the first Emmy win that Dan Gilroy has earned throughout his career. Although he was nominated earlier for an Oscar for Nightcrawler, the writer lost to Birdman back in 2015.

This marks a significant growth in Gilroy’s career as the writer has only written 6 episodes of Andor. However, it takes a special talent to win an Emmy award after writing just six episodes for a TV show. Of course, the worldwide fame and acclaim of Andor have certainly helped increase the viewership of the show; however, it was Gilroy’s skills that made him worthy of the Emmy win.

Of course, there’s no way for the writer to go but upwards, and this Emmy win is just one in many that Dan Gilroy will probably secure throughout his career.
