Elden Ring Nightreign Deep of Night Update: Preparation Tips and What to Expect

Elden Ring Nightreign is about to get much harder and far more punishing. On Thursday, September 11, 2025, Bandai Namco and FromSoftware will be releasing the Deep of Night update, and we need to get ready for what’s coming. Designed for those who have mastered the base game, this update will push even the most skilled of us to our limits.

Say goodbye to predictability because we’re getting new enemies, random bosses, new Relics, and more! If you thought you were too good at the game, FromSoft might be saying otherwise.

Everything You Need to Know About The Deep of Night Update

The biggest thing you need to know about the Deep of Night update is that it’s the high-difficulty challenge mode that a lot of us have been waiting for. If you’ve put in the hours since Nightreign‘s launch and consider the current content trivial, then this is what you should look forward to. And the challenge is nothing to scoff at.

FromSoftware confirmed that enemies in this mode will be far stronger, and unlike in standard expeditions, you cannot choose which Nightlord to face. That means builds and strategies must adapt on the fly, and we’re going to get a level of unpredictability that the game has lacked since launch.

Progression in this update is scaled to different difficulty tiers known as Depths, and five Depths become increasingly difficult. Bandai Namco has specifically challenged players to try and surpass Depth 3, while Depths 4 and 5 are described as an “endless battle” for those seeking ultimate bragging rights.

There’s also speculation that we’ll be up against mutated red enemies, which have significantly boosted health and damage output. These red enemies will also drop red rarity gear, items with two strong passive effects balanced by a single negative trait. And on top of that, we’ll be getting a new set of relics exclusive to this mode called Depth Relics.

Best Ways to Prepare for Elden Ring Nightreign‘s Upcoming Update

With the update dropping on September 11, we don’t have too long left to prepare for this upcoming challenge. Here are the best preparation strategies:

1. Diversify your builds. Since the Nightlords will be randomized in this new mode, don’t lock yourself into a single build or style. Have backup weapons and Ashes of War ready so you can pivot mid-run depending on weaknesses.

2. Practice how to adapt in expeditions. The Deep of Night is going to have some crazy stuff that won’t be predictable. So before the update is out, you can try deliberately doing expeditions with unconventional routes, switching weapons or playstyles on the fly. This will prepare you for the real challenge to come.

3. Practice better teamwork with your squad. If you play the game with a dedicated team of friends, you’ll want to be on the same page with them while diving into the new challenge. You could diversify the builds among yourselves so you can cover every possible enemy. Who knows when you might need it?

If you were expecting a new map or some more Nightfarer options, this might not be the update you were waiting for. But the new content seems promising nonetheless. This update has an important role to play. The game was starting to become easy for those who put in the work to get good, and this will help them.

Either way, when September 11 arrives, you can bet that we’ll dive headfirst into the new challenge. Will you? Let us know down in the comments!
