Dust Bunny Trailer: Mads Mikkelsen and Bryan Fuller Turn a Girl’s Bedtime Fear Into Dark Genius

The long-awaited trailer for Dust Bunny has dropped, and it’s just the twisted fairy tale we were all hoping for! The movie stars Mads Mikkelsen alongside Sigourney Weaver, two brilliant actors we’ve come to love over the decades!

Bryan Fuller is in the director’s chair, and since Mikkelsen is in the lead, we’re instantly thinking about their reunion, since both famously collaborated on Hannibal. This time around, they’ll transform our childhood fear of monsters under the bed into a full-fledged horror action saga!

So, here’s a breakdown of the trailer, followed by a throwback to Mikkelsen and Fuller’s acclaimed project about the infamous serial killer char acter.

Trailer Breakdown of Mads Mikkelsen and Sigourney Weaver’s Dust Bunny

The trailer begins with Mads Mikkelsen looking at a sharpened knife, and then a shot of Sigourney Weaver firing heel-shaped guns! The former sits in a room with a little girl and lights up a lamp, shaped like a chicken laying an egg.

The girl reveals that she saw a monster under her bed, and moves a bundle of cash towards Mikkelsen’s character, asking him to slay a monster. She says that he has the appeal of someone who might have “killed a lot of things” in the past.

We see firecrackers go off as Mikkelsen fights with people, and then an interaction with Weaver, where she labels him as a monster. Finally, we reach the trailer’s crescendo, where it’s unclear if we’re referring to actual disfigured beings or simply murderers who harmed the girl’s family.

There’s an odd, innocent yet dark edge to the aesthetics, it seems like a fairytale of sorts, but also not! There are vibrant colors that would remind you of a children’s movie, paired with darker themes and visuals that seem to perfectly match the horror thriller vibe they were going for!

Fans of Hannibal would love this long-overdue reunion between Mads Mikkelsen and Bryan Fuller. Their series became a cult sensation that redefined Hannibal Lecter in a stylish, cerebral, and beautifully grotesque lens!

In Dust Bunny, you can see Fuller’s knack for mixing beauty with brutality, and it echoes the same artistic vision that Hannibal thrived on. What’s particularly intriguing is how ambiguous things are despite a full trailer reveal.

We don’t know if the monsters are actually supernatural or simply the little girl’s metaphor for trauma caused by violent adults. Mikkelsen and Sigourney Weaver fit right into the fairy-tale-gone-wrong aesthetic, and it seems like Fuller is carving out his own place in the horror genre with Dust Bunny.

So, what do you think of the trailer? Did it leave you curious and excited, or were you expecting more?

Dust Bunny is set to release in theaters on December 5, 2025 (USA).
