Tom Holland’s Spider-Man might be old enough to save the world, but he is not old enough to take the lead in Marvel’s upcoming ensemble superhero movie, Avengers: Doomsday. In September 2025, Marvel insider Alex Perez joined a Patreon/Discord Q&A with members of The Cosmic Circus‘ Discord community, where he answered questions about the characters and plotlines of Doomsday.
One of the members with the handle icast05 asked Perez, “If Holland’s Spider-Man is in Doomsday, what role will he play in the story?” Perez replied, “Similar to the one in Avengers: Infinity War.” Perez previously teased that some mutants will also appear in Doomsday.
What Does This Mean for Spider-Man’s Arc in Avengers: Doomsday?
In Infinity War, Spidey was not a central figure in the overall plot but still played a crucial supporting role. He joined Iron Man, Doctor Strange, and the Guardians of the Galaxy in space, showcasing his courage and youthful optimism while also delivering some of the film’s most emotional beats, particularly his heartbreaking dusting at Thanos’ snap.
If Doomsday follows the same pattern, Spider-Man is likely to be a part of major team sequences rather than driving the core storyline himself. This does not mean his role will be insignificant. On the contrary, Peter often brings a deeply human perspective to the Avengers’ multiversal conflicts. His relatability and sense of responsibility provide grounding moments amid cosmic chaos.
Peter has been operating as a more isolated, mature hero lately. That growth could be reflected in Doomsday, showing a Spider-Man who has learned from immense loss and carries a heavier sense of duty. His interactions with younger or less experienced heroes could mirror the mentorship Tony Stark once gave him.
Holland will next be seen headlining Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Depending on where that movie leaves the story, Peter is likely to enter Doomsday with a better sense of his identity and purpose, carrying forward the consequences of his solo journey. That journey could directly shape how he fits into the larger Avengers narrative.
Which Characters Are Confirmed to Star in Avengers: Doomsday?
Spidey was notably missing from the official cast announcement video Marvel Studios posted on its YouTube channel. This raised many questions, as fans wondered about the possible reasons for Holland’s absence from the cast list. With the star’s busy schedule due to his roles in Brand New Day and Christopher Nolan’s Odyssey, it seemed understandable that he might not be able to star in Doomsday.
Besides the beloved web-slinger, Doomsday will star many other old and new superheroes. Here is a list of all the characters expected to appear in the film:
Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘s cast is also quite star-studded, as Tom Holland, Zendaya, Mark Ruffalo, Jon Bernthal, and Jacob Batalon are expected to reprise their respective roles. New cast members include Liza Colón-Zayas and Sadie Sink.
