Benedict Cumberbatch has made confusing statements about his inclusion in Avengers: Doomsday, but according to popular scooper Alex Perez, the character will have an important role to play in MCU phase 6, almost as important as Iron Man’s in Endgame. As the film takes shape in the studio, more details have emerged about how the Avengers will assemble to fight incursions.
As the film brings the X-Men, the Fantastic Four, Wakandans, and other groups to the forefront, Perez revealed Strange’s exact purpose in the movie.
Exactly what he was asked to do. Fix an incursion… by any means necessary.
In Endgame, Iron Man took on the responsibility to reverse the Blip using the Infinity Gauntlet and sacrificed his life in the process. With the incursions being a direct threat now, Strange will use the experience he had in the Dark Dimension to save Earth from colliding with another universe. He also might be sacrificing himself like Iron Man.
Doomsday Hints at Doctor Strange Taking on the Actions of Molecule Man in Secret Wars

Avengers: Doomsday will only be one part of the story in the MCU’s upcoming two-part event, with Secret Wars coming in 2027. Based on Jonathan Hickman’s comic of the same name, the movie will possibly see most of the MCU’s characters across the multiverse come together to survive the incursion’s newest effect: Battleworld.
In the comics, Doctor Doom was the mastermind who saved the timeline from being completely destroyed and created a Frankenstein’s Monster of a world called Battleworld. He ruled the world as God Emperor Doom, and the rest of the heroes had to devise a way to escape.

In the comics, Molecule Man becomes the source of Doom’s power, holding the power of the Beyonders. He betrays Doom when the heroes track down Molecule Man, and as they build back the multiverse, he places a version of himself in each reality. In the MCU, Doctor Strange is the only one who is likely to take that responsibility on himself.
Strange is known to cause incursions in every reality he has been in, including the Earth-616 reality. He might be the vessel of the Beyonders’ powers through which Doctor Doom creates his Battleworld and, in the end, causes his downfall. With Strange’s purpose being to ‘fix the incursions’, this might be how he does it.
All Signs Point to Doctor Strange as the Anchor Being of the MCU

Last year’s Deadpool and Wolverine introduced the concept of the Anchor Being in the MCU, with Wolverine revealed to be one of the Fox universe (designated as Earth-10005). This has led to fans wondering who the Anchor Being of the MCU, i.e., Earth-616, was. Some theorized that Iron Man was the one, while others picked Spider-Man.
However, Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange seems to be the most obvious choice. The sorcerer has been placed in a very important position in the hierarchy of the MCU. He also would not have let Tony sacrifice himself if he knew he was the anchor being. Kevin Feige even described Cumberbatch’s character as the ‘anchor’ of the MCU (via IGN).
With Doomsday and Secret Wars again placing him in an important role in the future of the multiverse, all signs point to him being the Anchor Being of Earth-616. If he dies in this reality, there are high chances of things going sideways very quickly in the MCU’s reality.
