With the release of DCU’s Superman, we got a good idea of what we can expect from the franchise in the future. Well, of course, some eagle-eyed audience members also noticed a hint towards Batman’s much-awaited intro in James Gunn’s franchise, which was witnessed during the evacuation scene of Metropolis. This particular scene may have set the tone and environment of what Gotham City and its Caped Crusader will look like.
This Superman Easter Egg Might Be the First Hint at DCU’s Batman
Although there were several nods to some of DC’s iconic and obscure characters and settings in Superman, there was no explicit mention of Gotham City in any of their conversations. But at the time of the Metropolis evacuation, many residents were seen exiting the city and heading towards Gotham.
As we can see in the still above, there seems to be a large group of people who are evacuating towards Gotham, which might feel odd for comic enthusiasts since that city is often depicted as dangerous. Considered to be the crime capital, its reputation has always been that of lawlessness and darkness.
But as we can see, people are still heading towards that city in droves. Therefore, the speculation now is that DCU’s Gotham is a brighter, safer iteration form its more prevalent versions for comics and other media. This, in turn, also means that Batman has been doing an amazing job of maintaining justice in his city.
Ultimately, it can mean two things. First, this version of the Caped Crusader has got some serious manpower behind him to take care of the city, which can include both Nightwing and Robin. Second, it can also mean we might just be getting one of the most extreme and brutal versions of Batman in the DCU, who doesn’t mind going to extremes to maintain order in Gotham.
How Peacemaker Season 2 Is Setting Up for Batman’s Entry in the Franchise
While it feels like subtle hints of Batman are present in just Superman, watching the first episode of Peacemaker Season 2 will give you an overdose of easter eggs from the superhero’s lore from the comics. From mentions of villains like Kite-Man and White Rabbit to references to places associated with him, Batman seems to be a character that’s just waiting to show himself.
Therefore, it’s only a matter of time before we might see the Caped Crusader swoop into the DCU and create waves in the wider narrative of Gods and Monsters: Chapter One. And with Gunn’s comments about the selection process for the star who will inherit the title of the superhero in the DCU, Batman’s influence will be backed by star power from Hollywood.
We might even get a glimpse at Gotham City and the neighbouring places that Batman is known to frequent in Peacemaker’s last episode, which has been stated by Gunn to set the tone for the franchise’s future.
Here’s a table with more information on Peacemaker Season 2 below.
