Did Diddy Make a Fatal Mistake Before His 50 Month Sentencing? Legal Expert Reacts

By George Jackson 10/05/2025

With the sentencing of music mogul and producer Diddy, Harvard Law professor and O.J. Simpson attorney Alan Dershowitz said that the rapper made a fatal mistake during the court trial proceedings.

The O.J. Simpson attorney revealed to Fox News that Diddy had made plans to pursue an interest outside the court following the verdict, which was a “slap in the face” for Judge Arun Subramanian.

I can’t imagine anything more stupid than that. How anybody permitted him to do that … It’s just a slap in the face to the judge. It’s outrageous. I can’t imagine any lawyer or any responsible person allowing … I would have quit the case.

He continued,

If I had been Diddy’s lawyer and Diddy had said, ‘I’m gonna make an arrangement, and I’m going to make it public.’ I would’ve said, ‘Yeah, and you’re going to get a new lawyer. I’m not representing somebody who is so stupid and arrogant.’

The rap mogul was found guilty of federal pr*stitution and was sentenced to 50 months in prison. Judge Arun Sumramanian also ordered the court to supervise Diddy’s release for 5 years following his release and for Diddy to pay a fine of $500,000.

Judge Subramanian Had a Fair Idea of Diddy’s Punishment Before Arriving at Court

Robert Shapiro, Alan Dershowitz’s partner, also revealed to Fox News that Judge Subramanian had already made his decision the day before he even walked into court.

My experience is that judges in advance have a pretty good idea of what the sentence is, and they’re not going to be swayed tremendously.

Shapiro spoke in context to the 11-minute video shown of Diddy’s family talking about the rapper and how he has been a good person in their lives.

What you did and your conduct, and that was the key word, substantial sentence for your conduct, not for your crime.

Sentenced to 50 months in prison, Diddy’s court case isn’t completely over yet since another former prosecutor weighed in with her opinion on how Diddy’s legal team could move forward.

Will P Diddy Raise a Legal Appeal? Former Prosecutor Expert Weighs In

Not all doors are closed for the music mogul since his legal team can still appeal for a lighter sentence or even a retrial of the whole thing. Former federal prosecutor Neama Rahmini also told Fox News that Diddy’s team can still make an appeal.

The former prosecutor seemed to think that Diddy can “and will” make an appeal on fair grounds because of the way that the trial was conducted.

This isn’t the end of the legal road for Diddy, though. He can and will appeal, and he has arguments that the judge improperly calculated the guidelines and considered acquitted conduct.

There’s always the presidential pardon, which can help Diddy. However, Rahmini seems to think that the storm is far from over and that Diddy’s team will go on a legal battle in the upcoming weeks.

Of course, it remains speculation on whether Diddy wants to continue fighting the case or would he rather prefer to serve prison time. All we know is that Diddy is in for some trouble.
