Alright, Dandadan Season 2 Episode 12 is exactly what I wanted from a finale, and at the same time, nothing like what I expected. ‘Clash! Space Kaiju vs. Giant Robot!’ sounds like your typical mecha-kaiju brawl, right? Heavy punches, city-smashing, slow-motion destruction. Nope. Science SARU basically looked at that setup and went, “Let’s turn up the chaos dial to eleven instead.”
And honestly? I loved it. This episode is pure Dandadan: messy, funny, heartfelt, and completely unpredictable. Sure, there are a few places I wish they’d push a little bit harder, but the mix of intense action and goofy character moments makes it one heck of a finale.
Momo and Aira: The Real MVPs of Dandadan Season 2 Episode 12
So, let’s talk about the fight. I was ready for Gundam-level heaviness when our crew manifested a giant Buddha mecha, especially against a kaiju that kept getting bigger and bigger. But no, this isn’t Evangelion, this is Dandadan. Instead of seriousness, the mecha moves with the same chaotic energy as the kids piloting it.
The result? A battle that feels more like a wild dance than a slow heavyweight brawl. It’s so fresh, so unpredictable, and so much better than the standard ‘big robot smashes big monster’ formula. However, it’s Momo and Aira who once again steal the show.
These two are absolute powerhouses. Aira’s Acrobatic Silky powers mixed with Momo’s psychic abilities make them a deadly duo, and their showdown with the kaiju proves it. Science SARU’s creativity with camera angles there blew me away.
Meanwhile, I’ve got to give a shout-out to Kinta here. Usually, he’s the loudmouth comic relief, but this episode gave him a moment that really hit me. He outright says he doesn’t care about being teased for loving robots, because they make him happy. That’s it. Simple, and honestly, really sweet.
It reminded me of My Dress-Up Darling, where characters refuse to hide their hobbies just because society thinks it’s ‘childish.’ Kinta’s moment added real heart to the chaos, and I didn’t expect that from him of all people. Good stuff.
Dandadan Season 2 Finale’s Cliffhanger Twist Nobody Saw Coming
Now, let’s discuss the cliffhanger. First, we learn the kaiju wasn’t really a kaiju at all, but an alien in disguise. Okay, cool twist. But then comes the real kicker: Momo walks out and catches said alien kissing Okarun. Like, excuse me? I actually yelled at my screen.
However, it’s the perfect kind of Dandadan ending: ridiculous, hilarious, and full of drama. Of course, Momo’s world would get flipped upside down over something Okarun-related. Forget the mecha fights, THIS is what’s going to have fans screaming until next season.
In the end, Dandadan Season 2 Episode 12 is everything I love about this anime rolled into one finale. The giant robot and kaiju showdown is chaotic in all the right ways, the comedy lands without undercutting the stakes, and the character moments are surprisingly heartfelt.
Throw in that jaw-dropping cliffhanger kiss, and you have a finale that’s half-hilarious, half-touching, and straight-up insane. Was it perfect? Not quite. I kind of wish the kaiju fight had more actual weight to it, something a little more terrifying. But honestly, that’s nitpicking. What we got was pure Dandadan: messy, unpredictable, and impossible not to enjoy.
If anything can be said about this finale, it’s that Dandadan is not afraid to toss the rulebook out the window. And we can’t wait to see what kind of madness Season 3 has in store.
