Confidence Queen Episode 10: Who is Kang Yo-seop?
The CEO of Josef Architects, Kang Yo-seop, is a world-renowned architect. In Episode 10, we see him delivering a lecture on his latest book, Plan Utopia. The book contains a plan for a city that holds no barriers, promotes equality, brotherhood, and serves as a space where all can be equally happy.
The reason why he wants to create such a city was his upbringing. Not only was he poor, but in the flashback, we see that his mother was cruelly abused by his father, and that his mother would often lock him in his room to protect him.
During his lecture, he talks about how the world gave everyone a different starting line: while the rich kids had to open ‘doors’ to succeed, the poor kids had to jump ‘over fences’ to make it big. But for him, there was no door or fence; he had to overcome the emotional turmoil of seeing his mother being abused every day.
He went on to study in Germany and talks eloquently about wanting to destroy the fences that keep the poor kids out. But behind his eloquence and inspiring facade is a sinister man whom only Yi-rang knows about.
Why Did Kang Yo-seop Kidnap Yi-rang?
As Kang Yo-seop reveals in his speech, he grew up pretty poor and lacked the grades that would have granted him a government scholarship. To make ends meet, he ended up tutoring the daughter of a major corporation, aka Yoon Yi-rang.
He spoke about how tutoring her was not easy as she was very mischievous. However, he ended up earning enough money to study abroad, and as he said, she ended up getting an insight into the real world.
His words alone reveal his twisted mentality. While things are still not clear, from what we know, he lured Yi-rang through mind games and kidnapped her. When he probably failed to get the money from her parents, he ended up kidnapping Gu-ho, the child of the informant.
Gu-ho’s father was awarded money for providing information, and Yo-seop likely made away with it by kidnapping Gu-ho and taking the reward money as ransom. This is possibly how he paid for his tuition abroad, while presenting himself as a hard-working and diligent man.
From what we saw in the next episode preview, Yi-rang and the gang will be going against him in the final two episodes. Things will surely get tumultuous, and we cannot wait to see how Yi-rang will win the real game.
