Christopher Judge Reveals If He’s Playing Kratos in Amazon’s God of War Show

Christopher Judge has voiced Kratos in the Sony games God of War (2018) and God of War: Ragnarok (2022). After Amazon announced it would be adapting the 2018 game, Judge has been the fan dream cast for the titular role.

Christopher Judge responded to a post on X regarding his casting:

I am??? 🤷🏾‍♂️🤷🏾‍♂️🤷🏾‍♂️❤️ https://t.co/STav76RhS1

The God of War series has already been ordered for two seasons at Amazon, and we’d like to see Christopher Judge take on Norse gods and villains with his signature Blades of Chaos.

Why Christopher Judge Is Perfect for the Role of Kratos

Standing at a mighty 6’3″, Christopher Judge has the commanding presence to bring life to the three-dimensional character that is Kratos. This is backed by the fact that Sony Santa Monica, the creators behind the God of War game, motion-captured Judge’s movements for the God to give his character more realistic animation in the game.

Christopher Judge brought his A-game, delivering a voice to Kratos that would channel aggression when necessary, authority when needed, and vulnerability when it came to his son, Atreus.

Judge is no stranger to the big and small screen, with an extensive acting career in movies and shows like The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,

Sirens, and The Dark Knight Rises. His most iconic role as an on-screen actor is as the Jaffa warrior Teal’c in Stargate SG-1 (1997-2007).

Christopher Judge is emotionally attached to the series, which came to him at a difficult time in his life, he told fans at the God of War 20th Anniversary cast reunion.

Judge talks about the experience changing him at the panel:

It really changed my whole perspective on the world, and what it really means to be a man.

Given all the factors mentioned, it’s easy to see why Judge is a fan-favourite to be Kratos in the series. Time will tell soon, as Ronald D. Moore, the showrunner, is planning out the first season.

What We Would Like To See In Amazon’s God of War

Amazon’s God of War will begin filming in March 2026, according to Nexuspointnews, which reports that the show will kick off in Vancouver, Canada. Per Collider, showrunner Ronald D. Moore confirmed that the show will remain faithful to the game as an “adaptation-slash-interpretation”.

Here are details of the 2018 game:

The 2018 God of War game follows Kratos and his son, Atreus, on their journey to the highest peak to spread the ashes of Kratos’ wife, Faye.

The core of the game is the relationship that the father-son duo shares, which is often strained but is held by the need to fulfill the wishes of Faye. God of War was a visual stunner when it released on the PlayStation 4 and remains so even today.

The entire game is linear, making it easy to adapt for the series. The tone of the game is dark and often brooding, drawing parallels to the icy mountains that they travel on.

Some iconic fights, like the ones with the main baddie, Baldur, are epic in scale and will be great to witness on television screens, as they often move through different locations during their earth-shattering punches.

The whole sequence in Norse’s hell, Helheim, where a crucial moment in Kratos’ journey is revealed (no spoilers). The boss fights in the God of War game are a rush to play and witness, as Kratos battles giant dragons, wolves, and even Valkyries.

With so much material to adapt with an already well-established lore, the writers will be hard-pressed to make a bad show. Amazon has already seen success with its Fallout series, so we can be cautiously optimistic.
