Chris Evans’ New Physique Hints Avengers: Doomsday Return as Steve Rogers

Chris Evans has sparked Avengers: Doomsday return rumors after appearing at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), in what could only be described as a superhero physique. It’s the kind that would remind you of his helicopter bicep curl, so everyone’s already speculating if he’s ready to don Captain America’s shield once more.

Evans played Captain America for nearly a decade in MCU films, and he wasn’t listed in Marvel Studios’ official Avengers: Doomsday cast reveal. His character had a pretty satisfying closing arc in Endgame, but since it’s Marvel, with all its multiverse possibilities, the door to our favorite heroes and villains making a comeback is always open!

So, let’s look at what Evans’ and Kevin Feige’s statements suggest about the actor’s return, followed by all the theories and rumors floating around on the internet!

What Chris Evans and Kevin Feige’s Comments Say About Steve Rogers’ Return

Chris Evans’ mixed signals do hint at his comeback, because on one hand, he’s been vocal about stepping away from the MCU after Avengers: Endgame

, by saying things like, “I’m sure it’s going to be that much harder when it comes out and you feel like you weren’t invited to the party.” (via Entertainment Weekly)

But he also seems to be in the loop, as he revealed, “I talk to [Robert Downey Jr. and the Russos] all the time. It’s where Pedro [Pascal] is right now.” The casual reference to his old collaborators makes it feel like he’s downplaying his involvement to keep the surprise intact.

Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige has also added fuel to the fire because he says the script is “still being worked on” with “plus-ing happening every day on set.” This comment makes it seem like they’re always ready for a cameo and have the flexibility to accommodate returning faces (via Games Radar).

Theories and Rumors about Chris Evans’ Appearance in Avengers: Doomsday

One circulating rumor claims that Chris Evans has been secretly filming scenes with Hayley Atwell for a time-traveling twist that reunites Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter. There’s an insider scoop (via ComicBook Movie) that points to another wild possibility, which suggests:

When Steve went back in time to go live with Peggy, he created the Incursions, so now Doom wants him dead.

Maybe Steve’s choice to stay with Peggy caused distortions in the multiverse and led to Doom’s tragedy. This would make Evans’ character the heart of the conflict, and also explain the reason for Doom’s vendetta.

Other theories suggest Evans could play a darker variant of his character, such as Hydra Cap, who is captured by Doom for a larger scheme. So, no matter which version he shows up as, his mere presence would make Avengers: Doomsday the boldest crossover yet.

But do you think he’s really coming back, or are we simply reaching with all the theories and speculations?

Avengers: Doomsday is set to release on December 18, 2026 (USA).
