Bret Hart’s awkward moment of rolling his eyes away from Triple H during his Hall of Fame Induction on April 18, 2025 made several headlines. Despite shaking hands with Triple H during the induction ceremony, Hart looked away from The Game instantly, which portrayed the rocky relationship between the two once more.
The Hitman appeared in a public Q&A session a week ago, where he shed light on the controversial moment. His comments clarified that the reason behind his snub of Triple H was what the fans thought it was. (via Inside The Ropes on YouTube)
“Well, I mean, I’ll be honest. I don’t want to peel a big scab off and go a big rag on about Triple H or Shawn [Michaels] or Vince or anybody. I want to do it, but…”
Hart may have stopped there for the time being, but he had spoken enough for fans to figure out the reason behind his snub of The Game. However, The Hitman eventually went no-holds-barred to fire several shots at Triple H, including addressing him with a derogatory adjective.
Bret Hart Labeled Triple H ‘Phony’
It has been 28 years since the controversial Montreal Screwjob, which severed the relationship between Hart and the alleged faction of Vince and Michaels. Hart has expressed his wrath toward Vince McMahon and Shawn Michaels on multiple occasions to date. By the time of his recent Q&A session, he had realized that bearing hatred for them would only make his heart heavier.
“I always compare it to carrying around a big bag of rocks, the gripes that you have in your life. It’s like, you know, if you can just drop that big bag of rocks and you don’t carry it around, you do a lot better for your mental state and your emotional state.”
However, he failed to restrict himself from going unfiltered while talking about Triple H moments later. Hart called The Game’s personality “phony” and revealed that he had “little” respect for him, as the former DX member did not “earn” whatever he accomplished in his WWE career.
“Triple H is a phony [person], like in the sense that he’s never earned it, and he never deserved it. He just married the boss’s daughter…He was just a guy I had very little respect for. I never really rated him [very high.]”
Hart’s comments about Triple H stemmed from discussing the awkward moment during his Hall of Fame induction ceremony. However, many speculated Hart would never make it to the WWE Hall of Fame.
Bret Hart’s Bitter Relationship with WWE
Hart’s relationship with the WWE-heading McMahon family and Michaels took an untoward turn following the infamous Montreal Screwjob in 1997. Hart took on Michaels for the WWF (WWE’s former name) Championship at Survivor Series on November 9, 1997.
The Hitman refused to follow Vince’s instructions to lose his title to Michaels in the match, which caused the WWE boss to secretly signal the referee to end the match in Michaels’ favor despite Hart never tapping out to Michaels’ Sharpshooter.
Hart viewed this as a betrayal and subsequently signed with the WCW out of disappointment. The 68-year-old publicly expressed his disgust for the WWE in the early 2000s, which made several fans think that Hart would never be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame despite easily being one of the all-time greats.
However, Vince’s idea of releasing the ‘pink and black’ DVD set in Hart’s honor went a long way in mending their relationship. Subsequently, Hart also made it to the WWE Hall of Fame for the first time in 2006 for amassing a thoroughly decorated career.
The Hall of Fame ceremony, where he had the awkward moment with Triple H, was the third time he made it to the prestigious league of wrestlers.
