The Hot Slugger in Borderlands 4 is a Legendary Jakobs Shotgun that stands as one of the finest weapons in the looter shooter. If you’ve completed the game’s campaign, you must get your hands on this Legendary Shotgun; otherwise, you’ll be missing out on some top-tier firepower. So, let’s dive into the details of the Hot Slugger in Borderlands 4.
Where Is the Hot Slugger Located in Borderlands 4?

You can obtain the Legendary Hot Slugger by defeating the boss, Callous Harbinger of Annihilating Death, who’s located inside a bunker in the Bones of Sanctuary area, to the extreme right side of the map. You must complete the Borderlands 4 campaign to gain access to this area, and once you do, head there and then go north to the Craven’s Nook Order Bunker in the Heart of the Mountain area.
Reaching the bunker door is easy, but opening it can be tricky if you don’t know where to look. Once you’re at the door, look behind and you’ll notice a Locust Station on a rock near the edge of the cliff. Pull a canister and throw it towards the door to open it. Head inside and take care of the enemies, or swoop past them.
Deep inside the bunker, you’ll come across a room with a closed vent on the left. Pull it using your grapple and then climb through it to reach the other side of the vent. Go right and follow the main path until you come across an elevator shaft. Mantle upwards, then grapple up to reach the platform.
From there, go right and follow the main path, and you will reach the boss. Beat the Callous Harbinger of Annihilating Death, and if you don’t receive the Hot Slugger, keep replaying the fight by respawning and farming the boss, and you’ll eventually receive the Shotgun, as it has an increased chance to drop from this boss.
All Hot Slugger Traits in Borderlands 4

Before we get into the best builds that you can create with the Legendary Shotgun in Borderlands 4, let’s take a look at its Traits and other perks to give you an idea of just how powerful and formidable it is in the game.
Manufacturer | Jakobs |
Weapon Type | Shotgun |
Rarity | Legendary |
Legendary Perk | Blazing Barrel: After killing an enemy, the Hot Slugger deals 30% extra damage for 10 seconds, stacking up to 3x. This means that you can deliver a total of 90% damage upon killing an enemy. |
Manufacturer Part | Jakobs: Bullets ricochet to nearby enemies when you inflict Critical Hits, excelling in crowd control. |
Magazine Size | One bullet per mag with an incredibly swift reload animation. |
The Hot Slugger looks elegant and plays even better, taking care of enemies within seconds thanks to the Blazing Barrel Legendary Perk. However, since the weapon uses slug rounds, its projectile travel speed leaves much to be desired. But the Shotgun’s rapid reload and accuracy more than make up for it.
Best Hot Slugger Builds in Borderlands 4

The Shotgun works effortlessly with all the Vault Hunters in the game, and to create the best build with it, focus on skills and abilities that enhance the weapon’s Ricochet potential, Critical Hit chance, and damage. If you manage to do that with any of the Vault Hunters, then the Hot Slugger will hit every spot when it comes to enemies and bosses.
Now, let’s get into the specific skills and Passives that you can utilise with each Vault Hunter and the Hot Slugger in Borderlands 4.
Vex | Vex’s Passives, such as Blood Shot and Bloodletter, allow her to deal increased damage and also give her weapon a chance to apply Bleed on enemies, boosting Crit Chance, respectively. |
Amon | Use Amon’s Cryo Damage to freeze enemies and finish them off with the Hot Slugger. Passives like Dragon Breath also increase the damage potential of a gun. |
Rafa | The Hot Slugger’s one-bullet magazine can be exploited perfectly by Rafa’s Passives, such as First Impression and Vitriol, since both increase the damage potential of a weapon. |
Harlowe | Using Harlowe’s Passives, such as Excited State and the like, increases the Critical Hit Damage of a weapon, synergising perfectly with the Hot Slugger’s Ricocheyt mechanic. |
In conclusion, the Hot Slugger is an overpowered Legendary Shotgun that’s adaptable and serves as an all-rounder weapon against enemies.
