The final moments of Mercedes Bryce Morgan’s Bone Lake see a disturbing revelation where the big twist gets revealed. Will and Cin, the two serial killers, are revealed to be incestuous lovers who think that their love is the only pure “relationship” in the world.
Serving pride/jealousy as their motivator, the incestuous lovers killed couples who they thought had a perfect “relationship” so that only Will and Cin could survive.
Manipulating the couples and pitting them against each other, Will and Cin considered it their art piece before murdering them. The final moments of the movie take place on a boat, wherein Sage kills Will in order to save Diego.
Diego also chops Cin’s fingers and later runs her over with her boat, thus giving a brutal end to a horrifying movie. Of course, the good guys win, the killers are defeated, but… is the story a happy ending?
What Did the Final Shots of Sage and Diego Mean?
After Will and Cin are killed in an act of self-defence, we see the morbid shots of Sage and Diego sitting on the boat. The duo and the boat are covered in blood as they both sit in silence.
In a final gesture, Sage accepts the engagement ring that Will had stolen from Diego and used it to propose to Cin earlier in the movie. Diego retrieves the engagement ring from Cin’s severed finger, all while not speaking a word.
These final shots depicted that things had changed between Diego and Sage. The couple had been traumatized by the events that had transpired and were too stunned to speak. Of course, they had survived the ultimate test of love, facing two serial killers, but is it truly the end of their problems?
Bone Lake 2: Can We Expect a Sequel?
With the film being released on October 3, a sequel hasn’t been announced, nor has it been greenlit. However, considering the way that things ended for Sage and Diego in Bone Lake, there is certainly room left for a sequel.
The potential sequel could follow many things, such as the trauma of surviving serial killers impacting Sage and Diego’s relationship, the constant paranoia of being chased and getting killed, and how the “perfect” relationship between Sage and Diego could start to crumble with their horrific traumas.
The storyline centered around the life of Diego and Sage will likely be a continuation of the first film and will be a good story for audiences to see. Naturally, it hasn’t been confirmed yet, but audiences wouldn’t mind seeing Sage and Diego’s “perfect” relationship on the big screens again.
Bone Lake is currently available to screen in theaters (USA).
