When we saw the most recent Strategic Opportunity for the current Major Order in Helldivers 2, we thought we’d finally get another free stratagem. However, that is not the case, as Arrowhead community manager Miitchimus confirms that there is no new stratagem.
It’s been a while since Arrowhead Game Studios has given us a free Stratagem from a Major Order, or any such main mission. September has brought a lot of interesting Major Orders in Helldivers 2, with Arrowhead giving us the Into the Unjust update. But our hopes for a new free stratagem are crushed now.
Arrowhead Has Crushed Our Hopes Like the Bugs
Community Manager miitchimus clarified the whole situation on Discord, saying that there is no new stratagem coming. And if this Strategic Opportunity would give a stratagem for free, “it will unlock either an orbital or a mech from the existing pool.” That might sound nice since free is free, but it’s crushing for those of us who have been waiting for a new stratagem.

Strategic Opportunities, when they appear, are designed as quick sub-objectives under larger Major Orders, giving players a time-sensitive side mission that ties into the war effort. But while the flavor text often teases exciting possibilities, the actual rewards tend to be underwhelming.
I feel like this “Strategic Opportunity” order is just a blatant attempt at distracting the community from the Major Order. Or do you guys think we will get a new stratagem from it? I honestly think the reward for completing it will just be temporary free exosuits or orbitals.
It’s also a shame lore-wise, since the Strategic Opportunity had the perfect setup for a new stratagem. The mission tasked players with liberating either Valyria 5, home to an old Emancipator Exosuit factory, or Choepessa IV, a planet littered with leftover munitions from the First Galactic War. On paper, it sounded like the perfect setup for a new stratagem.
Helldivers Haven’t Gotten a Free Stratagem In So Long
The frustration isn’t coming out of nowhere. Helldivers 2 hasn’t had a true free stratagem drop in ages. The last notable one was six months ago with the Grenade Battlement, while the only other new addition this year was gas mines, and you have to admit, those don’t really have the oomph we want to see from a free stratagem.

“Man, I really liked unlocking Stratagems via Major Orders. It’s been way too long,” one Redditor said on the Reddit post. Another added, “I’m kind of disappointed tbh. I was hoping for a new mech or maybe an orbital gas bombardment. Other players also say that the ambiguity in Arrowhead’s messaging makes things worse.

The frustration doesn’t mean the Strategic Opportunity system itself is flawed. In fact, many fans like the idea of having smaller, time-sensitive objectives running alongside Major Orders. It’s like we can go on little side quests with our squad while the rest of the Helldivers carry on the main war. The issue is when we get set up for good rewards, but there actually aren’t any.
