Roy gives Anne an orchid, which she wears in her hair, but something is off. She doesn’t react to it with a giddy or shy smile; she barely reacts, if anything. She felt more with Gilbert’s proposal, and realized Roy might be perfect on the surface, but isn’t the one for her.

On the flip side, there’s Philippa. She meets Jonas Blake, and their courtship is the polar opposite of Anne and Roy’s. She doesn’t fall for Jonas because of his looks or the flowers.
