After the success of A Minecraft Movie (2025), the franchise is expanding with a sequel, and we finally have a release date. The untitled sequel to A Minecraft Movie is all set to hit theaters on July 23, 2027.

However, the sequel sure has its work cut out for it, as July 2027 has multiple promising movies ready to give each other a run for their money at the box office.

As you can see, A Minecraft Movie sequel and The Simpsons 2 will be going head-to-head at the box office, creating a Barbenheimer sort of situation for fans who love both worlds.
In comparison, the first Simpsons movie, released in 2007, made a whopping $527 million at the box office on a production budget of just $72 million, as per The Numbers. Meanwhile, Jared Hess’ OG film, based on the popular video game, made $957 million on a budget of $150 million (via The Numbers).
Man of Tomorrow and A Quiet Place Part III will also have fans flocking to their nearest theaters for the experience, given the franchise’s respective popularity, possibly creating a clash.
August and September 2027 also have great projects lined up for the fans, with Miami Vice releasing on August 06, a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem film releasing on September 17, and an untitled DreamWorks animated flick coming out on September 24. What Do We Know About A Minecraft Movie Sequel So Far?
Given A Minecraft Movie‘s success, discussion about a sequel started taking place almost immediately after the film’s release. Director Jared Hess was always interested in the idea of expanding the Minecraft universe through live-action.
In an interview with GamesRadar+, Hess said of a sequel, “Oh, it’d be so much fun…I mean, look, there’s the world’s infinite, so many amazing mods and characters and biomes we haven’t explored yet, so it’d be amazing.”
Now that we finally have a release date for the sequel, fans can rest easy. Hess will return to direct the untitled film and co-write the screenplay with Chris Galletta. As per Variety, the details of the sequel will “remain deep in the mine for now.”
The producers will include: Mary Parent, Cale Boyter, Roy Lee, Eric McLeod, Kayleen Walters, Torfi Frans Ólafsson, and Jason Momoa.
