Britney Spears Needs “Help”: Britney and Ex-Husband Kevin Federline’s Heated Exchange

By James Martin 10/16/2025

Kevin Federline has made some serious allegations against his ex-wife and the mother of his children, Britney Spears. He will soon be coming out with his tell-all memoir, You Thought You Knew, in which he talks about everything from global stardom to his turbulent marriage. The description of the book says, “What you thought you knew was only half the story.”

In an excerpt revealed by the New York Times, Federline recalls Spears standing in the doorway of their sons’ bedroom, holding a knife in her hand. The memoir also claims that the singer would drink wine while she was pregnant and would do c*caine while breastfeeding.

He alleges in his book that he had no idea that she had filed for divorce and only found out when he was asked about it in an interview with MuchMusic. As for their children, Preston and Jayden, Federline accuses Spears of erratic behavior towards them. From bleach burns to physical abuse, Federline’s book talks about it all.

One night, Preston was in Paris with his girlfriend’s family when Spears allegedly called him up and blamed his father for everything. When confronted by her son, Federline writes, “Her response was chilling: she told him she wished he, his brother, and me were all dead” (via Variety).

Currently promoting his memoir, Federline sat down for an interview with Entertainment Tonight, where he revealed the reason behind his timing was that he wanted his kids to be old enough to understand.

He added,

I’m really worried. I’m absolutely, as a father, terrified that one day I might wake up and my sons are going to have to deal with the unimaginable. I kind of have to sound the alarm that…somehow, someway…their mom would get help.

After alleging that Spears needs “help“, he admitted that the memoir does not go into details about her personal life, but the reality is “ten times worse” than what he has penned down.

Britney Spears’ Reply to Kevin Federline’s Claims

Britney Spears could not let her ex-husband’s claims fall on deaf ears, and she took to social media to write a lengthy response to the allegations and claims he is making in his book and interviews.

First of all, she called him out for his “constant gaslighting“, adding that she has always begged for a relationship with her boys, Preston (20) and Jayden (19). Spears continued that it was tough having a relationship with teenage boys, but that she had been there waiting regardless.

Setting boundaries, Spears went on to state, “With one son only seeing me for 45 min in the past 5 years and the other with only 4 visits in the past 5 years. I have pride too. From now on I will let them know when I am available.

The constant gaslighting from ex-husband is extremely hurtful and exhausting. I have always pleaded and screamed to have a life with my boys.
Relationships with teenage boys is complex. I have felt demoralized by this situation and have always asked and almost begged for them to…

In another statement (via TODAY), Spears’ team called Federline for “profiting” off her, adding, “sadly it comes after child support has ended with Kevin.” They urged everyone to read her memoir, The Woman in Me, where she told her side of the story.

Britney Spears and Kevin Federline’s Relationship

Before things turned ugly, there was a time when Britney Spears and Kevin Federline were so in love that they tied the knot only months into the relationship. They first met in the summer of 2004. Back then, Federline had been working as a backup dancer for Spears’ ex, Justin Timberlake. Come September, they decided to get married.

Talking about the wedding, Spears told PEOPLE, “I just thought it would be too much if we had done it when we were supposed to. It became this huge thing and I was like, ‘What are we waiting for? We know this is the real thing, why not just do it now?’ That’s why I wanted to sneak and do it our little way.

They had Sean Preston and Jayden James in September 2005 and September 2006, respectively, before calling off the marriage in November 2006. They eventually reached a divorce settlement that allowed joint legal and physical custody of their sons.

Later, though, in 2019, a new child custody arrangement was created, giving Spears only 10% of custodial rights. In 2022, Federline made some bold claims about the infamous conservatorship she was put under by her father. While the world celebrated her freedom from Jamie Spears, Federline told the Daily Mail that the conservatorship probably “saved” the Outrageous singer.

Coming to Jamie’s defense, he said,

I saw this man that really cared, and really cares about his family and wanting everything to be OK,” Federline continued. ‘When Jamie took over [the conservatorship], things got into order. He saved her life.

While Spears is reportedly single at the moment, Federline has been married to Victoria Prince since 2013, and they have two beautiful daughters together.
