Netflix Sets the Release Date for Eddie Murphy’s Documentary

Netflix has officially announced the release date for its highly anticipated documentary, Being Eddie. Sharing a deeply personal look at Eddie Murphy’s decades-spanning legacy, the documentary is set to premiere on Netflix on November 12, 2025.




The official synopsis of the Netflix documentary reads, as per Deadline,

It goes without saying that there is only one Eddie Murphy. No other teen comedian shared a stage with Jerry Seinfeld at 17 and joined the cast of Saturday Night Live right out of high school. No actor has ever played a cop, a doctor, and a donkey — and dominated every facet of Hollywood he’s touched. Fewer still have been an A-list celebrity for over four decades, and never succumbed to its darker side.

It features an impressive lineup of voices, including Chris Rock, Dave Chappelle, Jamie Foxx, Kevin Hart, and Jerry Seinfeld, Murphy’s The Pickup co-star Pete Davidson, among others. The documentary is produced by John Davis, John Fox, Charisse Hewitt-Webster, Terry Leonard, and Kent Kubena.

Eddie Murphy Peels Back the Curtain in the Netflix Documentary

Director Angus Wall has shared a brief glimpse into what fans can expect from the upcoming Eddie Murphy documentary, revealing that it includes rare, deeply personal reflections.

In a recent interview with USA Today, Wall shared that Murphy opened up about the “deep relationship” he had with his older brother, Charlie Murphy, who passed away from leukemia in 2017.

“Eddie is such an icon and he’s such a legend, but he’s also one of the world’s most interesting people. He’s just such a unicorn of a human being,” Wall further shared, reflecting his experience working with Murphy.

The filmmaker began working on the documentary in 2019. During the 2020 pandemic, he set up cameras in Murphy’s home to continue filming and had several “open and vulnerable” conversations on a wide range of topics.
