Nicole Kidman’s 2024 erotic thriller Babygirl is yet again splashed all over tabloids. But this time, it’s not just because of its bold story, but a behind-the-scenes gossip regarding one particularly kinky sequence that was too real for director Halina Reijn. Well, in the movie, we see Kidman as a powerful businesswoman who falls for a much younger intern, played by Harris Dickinson.
Their relationship quickly turns intense and passionate, with lots of BDSM, control, and power play. That’s when one particular scene appears where Kidman’s Romy gets a glass of milk at the bar, sent from Dickinson’s Samuel. Romy then finishes it all in one chug, and Samuel leaves the bar after calling her a ‘good girl’. And while it left people’s jaws on the floor, it was apparently inspired by the director’s real-life incident.
The table contains basic details on Babygirl:
Halina Reijn’s Real-Life Incident Inspired Babygirl’s Bizarre Yet Raunchy Scene
Speaking about one of the boldest scenes in Babygirl, the famous “milk scene”, director Halina Reijn revealed that it came from something that actually happened to her years ago. She told IndieWire that she once had a strange but exciting encounter with a much younger actor in Belgium, and that moment stuck with her ever since.
When she later wrote Babygirl, she decided to bring that memory into the movie. In her story, Reijn said she had just finished a great night on stage and went to a bar alone. While she was there, a young Belgian actor, around 15 years younger than her, sent her a glass of milk. She found the gesture both odd and very bold.
It happened to me. I was playing in Belgium onstage, and I got offstage, and I had a really good run, and I was like, ‘Oh my god!’ I felt really good about myself for one night in my life. All my colleagues were like, ‘No, we’re going to bed.’ They’re all boring. I was all alone.
I went to a bar, and I ordered something boring like a Diet Coke… There was this young Belgian actor… He was at least 15 years younger than I, and he ordered me a glass of milk. I thought it was an incredible, hot thing to do, and so courageous, and so I wanted to reward him by drinking the whole thing, and I did.
Instead of ignoring it, she drank the whole thing as a sort of “reward” to him, even though she admitted the milk made her nauseous. Meanwhile, Reijn’s real-life event had no romantic ending. However, it left a strong impression on her. She said the moment felt strangely intimate and powerful, even though they never spoke or met again.
Years later, that’s how Halina Reijn turned her experience into Babygirl’s intense bar scene between Nicole Kidman and Harris Dickinson.
Nicole Kidman’s Kinky Onscreen Affair Left Her With Too Many Org*sms
Meanwhile, Nicole Kidman has also opened up about the s*xual aspect of her role in Babygirl. Considering how her performance has drawn attention not just for her acting but for how raw and emotional it is, the actress admitted she had to take breaks during filming because of how intense her scenes were.
In an interview with The Sun, Kidman said she reached a point where she didn’t “want to org*sm anymore”, reflecting on how demanding and overwhelming those scenes were for her. She explained that filming such moments required a lot of trust and emotional openness between the actors and the director.
There was an enormous amount of sharing and trust and then frustration. It’s like, ‘Don’t touch me’. There were times when we were shooting where I was like, ‘I don’t want to org*sm anymore.’
Don’t come near me. I hate doing this. I don’t care if I am never touched again in my life! I’m over it. It was so present all the time for me that it was almost like a burnout.
Nicole Kidman shared that the process was sometimes exhausting because of how real it all felt. Yet, despite the challenges, she praised director Halina Reijn for creating a safe environment on set. She said that while the role pushed her limits, it also helped her explore a different side of acting, one that focused on control, vulnerability, and desire.
