Celebrities’ political views always end up being controversial, and that is why fans rarely hear from Dennis Quaid talk and comment about political issues; however, he does not completely shy away from the topic. In fact, last year, he proudly proclaimed his support for US President Donald Trump.

This was not the first time he voiced his opinion about the politician. At the height of the pandemic, The Parent Trap star commended Trump for doing a great job holding the economy together while providing the people the assistance they needed.

I’m here today to tell you that it’s time to pick a side. Are we going to be a nation that stands for the Constitution? Or for TikTok? Are we going to be a nation of law and order? Or wide open borders? Which is it? Because it’s time to pick a side.

Then, the actor drew parallels between the issues of the past and the present, later on declaring Trump as his favorite president of the 21st century. Months earlier, he revealed he’s going to vote for him because it made sense. Quaid wasn’t ready to support Trump in the past until he saw what was happening around, which was the “weaponization of our justice system” (via The Hill).

Moreover, Quaid insisted that it is not necessary to like Trump in order to vote for him. When asked if he likes the president, the actor responded that he appreciates what the politician has done with the office, especially his dealings with world leaders.

Despite Trump Endorsement, Quaid Still Claims He’s An Independent

Quaid said in an episode of the Joe Rogan Experience that he’s been an Independent all his life, enumerating the political leaders he had previously supported. While he endorsed Trump, he still believes in the “pendulum of politics and culture” and what the world needs at this moment.

Notably, he argued that Republicans and Democrats need each other, insisting that the nation is based on compromise, which is what he thinks is the best way to achieve progress.

The 71-year-old actor isn’t the only one in his family backing Trump. His brother, Randy Quaid, is also a staunch supporter.
