One Piece’s Elbaph Arc is currently in full swing, depicting the truth behind the God Valley Incident through Loki’s flashback. We have yet to witness the Roger Pirates go against the Rocks Pirates, but considering how strong Xebec was, Gol D. Roger must have strengthened his Haki to win the intense battle.
In the past, Silvers Rayleigh has spoken about Haki, likening it to a flower. He curiously told Luffy that it only blooms in the extreme conditions of a real battle. The God Valley Incident is one of the most intense wars in One Piece history, and the only way we can see Roger winning is if his Haki also “bloomed” back then. Did Eiichiro Oda tease this moment?
What We Know About Haki in One Piece Through Silvers Rayleigh
Monkey D. Luffy trained under the best during the two-year time skip when the Straw Hat Pirates dispersed to train. Silvers Rayleigh, the Dark King and former Right Hand of Gol D. Roger, is possibly one of the strongest Haki users in One Piece. The protagonist had used Conqueror’s Haki twice by accident and wished to control it.
We see the fruits of his training after the Summit War Saga. Luffy can effortlessly use Conqueror’s Haki to knock out his targets. Earlier, when he unleashed it due to stressful events, he would indiscriminately make people faint. However, he now controls it with precision.
It’s all owed to Silvers Rayleigh’s training, however harsh it must have looked. He polished Luffy’s senses and made him stronger than ever. Haki is the ultimate power system, which can even surpass the most broken Devil Fruit in existence.
Despite all of the training, some antagonists were far more powerful than Luffy. Charlotte Katakuri’s Observation Haki, which allowed him to see the future, was impossible for Luffy to bypass. He knew he had to beat him and remembered what Silvers Rayleigh said in Chapter 886, that Haki “blooms” when you face off against a stronger opponent.
Thus, the more powerful enemies you face, the stronger your Haki gets. Luffy became more powerful after his battle against Katakuri, endured the fight, and won. He later goes on to fight Kaido, and his advanced Conqueror’s Haki flowed far more freely after he unlocked Gear 5.
Rocks D. Xebec Is a Legend, but Gol D. Roger Will Prove Why He’s Better
Ever since Rocks was fully introduced in Chapter 1154, he’s proven himself to be one of the strongest characters. He killed an Admiral, defeated Garling with ease, went toe-to-toe with Harald on multiple occasions, and destroyed the Gate of Justice.
Despite his legacy as the Pirate King, Gol D. Roger now seems small in comparison. This isn’t to diminish his strength. He’s proved enough with Divine Departure. However, he was in his prime after God Valley.
It’s also established that Roger ultimately defeated Rocks, with the assistance of Garp, but the truth might be more complicated than that, given how different the events of God Valley seem in recent One Piece chapters. So what exactly did it take to defeat him?
For Roger to beat Rocks, it has to be with a significant Haki upgrade. Silvers Rayleigh, as his Right Hand, must have witnessed it and realized this must be how Haki blooms. Soon enough, fans will also see how the Pirate King had his moment and officially became stronger than Rocks, just like when Luffy surpassed Katakuri.
