Helldivers 2 has dropped another Major Order, and surprise, surprise: it’s more filler disguised as Liberty Day preparation. High Command wants Super Earth’s finest “procuring” explosives from Automatons on Marfark and Zosma for the “Super Earth Patriotic Pyrotechny Display.”
Because nothing says democracy like stealing fireworks from the bots you blow up hourly using orbital bombardments:
MAJOR ORDER: Preparations for Liberty Day have begun. All over the Galaxy, the spirit of rebirth and renewal begins to permeate the ventricles of our citizens’ hearts.
This year, our most venerated holiday follows the craven Illuminate attack on Super Earth herself. Our citizens… pic.twitter.com/xkTWSAnF0N
You rain 500kg bombs and orbital strikes on these things every mission. Super Earth manufactures enough ordnance to flatten planets weekly. But sure, go steal fireworks from the robot army. Makes perfect sense. Don’t question it, or the Democracy Officer gets involved.
The Filler Content Cycle Strikes Again in Helldivers 2
Remember when objectives actually moved the story forward? Operati on Righteous Reclamation promised real hive world invasions on Oshaune back in September. Players got hyped. Then, immediately after we got our behinds handed to us by those Rupture Strain bugs, orders shifted to grinding DSS construction materials and defending random planets nobody cared about.
That Automaton intelligence choice between Vessel 00 and Nucleus intel looked interesting. The community voted, picked one, and waited for lore revelations. Got basically nothing. Just confirmation of stuff already obvious from playing the game and reading a wiki. Underground Illuminate got teased at one point too, but the community has likely already forgotten about all that, too.
Post-September everything feels copy-pasted: defend this sector, gather these resources, vote where the DSS goes next, repeat. No narrative weight behind anything. Just checking boxes until Arrowhead finishes whatever they’re actually working on behind the scenes.
Which everyone knows is fixing those awful Rupture enemies they had to delete entirely.
Joel’s Obviously Buying Time Until Rupture Strain Returns
Nobody’s fooled about what’s happening here—our omnipotent Game Master is running filler objectives while the devs scramble to fix Rupture Strain without making them complete jokes that everyone will want to ignore.
That September 17 announcement said improved versions would return in five weeks, which puts the deadline around October 22. Liberty Day on October 26 sits just days after that timeframe, making it convenient timing for what’s obviously a stall tactic while technical work happens behind the scenes.
There is one elephant in the room, though: Arrowhead doesn’t do balance; they do extremes. Rupture Warriors launched as burrowing death machines with seemingly unavoidable lunge attacks. The community revolted hard enough to get them removed entirely. Now they’re coming back “improved,” and history suggests two outcomes: still terrifying or nerfed so hard they become harmless.
There’s little to no track record of this studio finding a balanced middle ground. Something’s either overtuned enough to ruin missions or gets adjusted until it’s not threatening whatsoever. And on that note, Liberty Day better deliver something substantial beyond just fireworks for Super Earth’s children!
Does gathering bot explosives for pyrotechnics feel like meaningful progression? Will Rupture Strain come back balanced or get the classic Arrowhead overcorrection treatment? Let us know in the comments below.
