Chapter 6 of Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo was the first time that Yuji Itadori’s adult form was revealed. He appeared in a flashback of Masaki, the antagonist. This moment was brief but certainly impactful.
In fact, it cemented the position of Yuji as a capable sorcerer who was the true successor of Gojo. At the same time, this scene gave more credibility to Modulo as the sequel to the original franchise.
Yuji Gets the Gojo Treatment in Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo
In Jujutsu Kaisen, Satoru Gojo was a special grade sorcerer who was immensely powerful. He was presented as a comforting presence, someone who could defeat any enemy, no matter how powerful he was. To his students, he was a constant source of inspiration as well as annoyance.
Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo reintroduces Yuji Itadori in the same way. Of course, it hasn’t been officially confirmed if the one shown in the manga was actually Yuji, but the hooded character resembled the original JJK protagonist, right down to his scars.
In chapter 6 of Modulo, as Masaki is fighting Maru, he suddenly gets a brief flashback of the one person who made him flee for his life after serving him a crushing defeat. The flashback consisted of an image of a hooded character who resembles Yuji. This shows just how powerful Yuji had become and justifies the fact that he defeated Ryomen Sukuna.
Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo‘s Maru Parallels Yuji’s Legacy
The flashback was brief but impactful. It connected both storylines, giving more credibility to JJK Modulo. At the same time, it did not disrupt the flow of the current sequel. Because Yuji was only introduced as an all-powerful guy who once defeated powerful villains, it serves as a parallel to measure Maru’s strength.
There is another parallel between Yuji and Maru, a more significant one. Just like how Yuji housed the special grade curse, Ryomen Sukuna, and often lost control over his own body, Maru also goes into his berserk state, over which he has little control. Maru often goes into a rampage during which he might not be able to differentiate between friend and foe.
And if this sounds familiar, it’s because of how Sukuna often took over Yuji’s body to cause havoc in his surroundings. Maru’s berserk state is reminiscent of the visceral days of the early takeovers by Sukuna. While Maru might manage to gain control again this time, there is no telling what the next berserk state will bring.
