Even after almost 30 years, One Piece still remains one of the greatest and the longest-running giants within the Shonen genre, and the Elbaph Arc marks the second phase of the final saga. While the series has just begun the second arc of the finale, there are many manga projects that have already ended, which still feels a little startling.
Thus, here is a ranked list of ten well-known shonen manga series that finished before One Piece reached the Elbaph Arc. These stories are also considered some of the best within the industry and have amassed a huge fan following through their complex narrative, brilliant character development, and dramatic twists.
10. My Hero Academia
My Hero Academia is a modern superhero shonen that focuses on Izuku “Deku” Midoriya learning to be a hero in a world where most people have superpowers called Quirks. It became one of the defining series of the 2010s and early 2020s and got different kinds of adaptations in the form of anime seasons, movies, and plenty of merchandise.
Serialized starting in 2014, My Hero Academia ran for ten years and wrapped up in late 2024. The manga series came to its conclusion with chapter 430, but the anime is still going on. It is also in its final season, and most likely will see the conclusion by the end of 2025.
9. Kaiju No. 8
Kaiju No. 8 follows Kafka Hibino’s journey of becoming a monster with the ability to transform into a kaiju and helping the Defense Force deal with the threat of other powerful and dangerous Kaijus. It also stood out for being one of the most successful digital-first manga titles that went global and amassed a huge fan following in a short period of time.
Kaiju No. 8 began serialization in 2020 and concluded in mid-2025. The series ran about five years and ended at Chapter 129 when its final chapters were published on Shueisha’s Jump+ platform in 2025. The anime adaptation just ended its second season and will soon focus on the next phase of the story.
8. Haikyuu!!
Haikyuu!! is a sports shonen that follows Shoyo Hinata and Tobio Kageyama as they grow from high-school rivals into teammates chasing national success. What made Haikyuu!! special was the fact that it focused on major sports themes like persistence, teamwork, and self-belief in the most unique way, and thus became a popular name far outside volleyball fans.
Haikyuu!! started serialization in 2012 and reached a satisfying conclusion in 2020. The series ended with Chapter 402, which closed out the story of Karasuno High and its rivals in July 2020. The anime series still has a bit of a narrative to cover, and it has been revealed that the anime’s final arc will be adapted into two movies, one of which has already been released.
7. Hell’s Paradise
Hell’s Paradise is a darker, supernatural shonen story that follows Gabimaru the Hollow, a ninja assassin who is famous for not dying. Gabimaru and his executioner, along with other death-row convicts and their executioners, is sent to the mysterious island of Shinsenkyo to retrieve the Elixir of Life in exchange for a pardon, but retrieving it is not so easy.
The manga began in 2018 and completed its run in 2021. Hell’s Paradise ended with Chapter 127 on January 25, 2021, finishing its run on Shonen Jump+ and later in collected volumes. The anime adaptation, on the other hand, only has one season under its belt, and the second one will be released in 2026.
6. Demon Slayer
Demon Slayer is a story set in the Taisho period of Japan, and it follows Tanjiro Kamado, a kind young boy whose entire family is brutally massacred by a demon, leaving his sister Nezuko as the only survivor. However, Nezuko is transformed into a demon herself, and thus begins Tanjiro’s journey to stop all the demons and save his sister.
Demon Slayer (Kimetsu no Yaiba) began serialization in 2016 and ended in 2020. The final, story-closing chapter is Chapter 205, published in May 2020, and the series was collected into 23 volumes. The anime has also entered the finale, with the final saga being adapted into three different movies. The one was released recently, and it was one of the biggest hits in the world.
5. Jujutsu Kaisen
Jujutsu Kaisen is a perfect blend of horror, dark fantasy, and fast-paced fights, making it one of the greatest shonen stories of all time. It follows the story of Yuji Itadori, a high school student who became a host for the terrifying curse Ryomen Sukuna after swallowing one of his fingers. He then joins Jujutsu High, where he learns how to control his new power and gather Sukuna’s fingers to be ultimately exorcised.
Jujutsu Kaisen started in 2018 and concluded last year. The manga’s final entry was published in Weekly Shonen Jump on September 30, 2024, as Chapter 271, closing Gege Akutami’s main storyline. The anime has a third season coming out in January 2026.
4. Fullmetal Alchemist
Fullmetal Alchemist is a classic shonen story focused on the Elric brothers, who tried to revive their deceased mother using the forbidden art of alchemy. Following that, they go on a search for the Philosopher’s Stone to undo the accidents that take place with them during the ritual. Fullmetal Alchemist is loved by fans because it uses alchemy as a system to explore loss, responsibility, and redemption.
The manga began in 2001 and wrapped up in 2010. Fullmetal Alchemist concluded with a total of 108 chapters across 27 volumes, the final chapter appearing in the magazine issue that closed the run in 2010. It is one of the few series on the list that saw the conclusion of both its manga and its anime adaptation.
3. Attack on Titan
Attack on Titan is a bleak shonen story that follows Eren Yeager, a young kid who joins the Armed Forces of Eldia to fight the giant Titans that threaten the “last remnants” of humanity living behind massive walls. As the story moves forward, Eren finds out that he has the power to transform into a Titan, and this results in the biggest shift in his journey.
Attack on Titan began serialization in 2009 and ended in 2021. The series completed with Chapter 139, published on April 9, 2021, closing an eleven-year run. The anime adaptation also ended in 2023, and the conclusion of the story was considered a little bit controversial.
2. Bleach
Bleach was one of the longest-running supernatural shonen stories that followed Ichigo Kurosaki, who gained the powers of a Soul Reaper after Rukia Kuchiki, a real Soul Reaper, transferred her abilities to him. Ichigo’s newfound powers allowed him to see and interact with the spirit world, where he must defend humans from all kinds of evil heading their way.
Bleach was serialized from 2001 to 2016 and concluded with its last numbered chapters in 2016. While it is believed that the story of Bleach ended with Chapter 686, collected across 74 volumes, fans still hope for extended side stories. However, the official ending portrays’ Ichigo’s story as complete.
1. Naruto
Naruto is one of the greatest manga series in the world, following Naruto Uzumaki’s journey from being a mischievous orphan to village hero, and ultimately the Hokage. He follows his dream, and despite being criticized and ridiculed for being a jinchuriki, Naruto proves everyone who doubted him wrong and becomes the strongest Shinobi in the series.
Naruto began in 1999 and closed in 2014. The series ended with Chapter 700 in November 2014 after a 15-year run. While the anime also ended, the series got a spin-off sequel in the form of Boruto, which has a manga and an anime adaptation of itself.
