The Hardy Brothers have been prolific performers inside the ring, both in WWE and beyond. However, there have been times when the Hardy Boyz were separated by Vince McMahon in the WWE. Matt and Jeff Hardy recalled that incident during the Ariel Helwani Show and talked about how it was sort of a punishment for them. Matt Hardy shared:
Vince early on tried to split us up. Like there were a few different times. Even way before, it was time to because he saw potential in doing things.
Additionally, as the conversation progressed, Matt Hardy also stated that Vince McMahon would take them off from WWE programming as punishment if they were not comfortable with a particular segment or storyline that he had decided for them.
The Hardy Boyz Unveil Their Preference: Tag Team or Singles Competition?
The remarks from Matt Hardy and the manner in which the former head of the WWE tried to break their partnership up revealed the stark realities of professional wrestling at the time. McMahon is known as an authoritative figure who wanted to do things his way, and that did not sit well with other wrestlers, including the Hardys.
Vince McMahon’s way of doing things back when he was at the helm of affairs in the company has made the Hardy Boyz believe that they are much more comfortable as a tag team as compared to single competitors inside the ring.
Contrary to what McMahon preferred back then, the Hardys believe that being a tag team does not require as much work, and they now see an opportunity to establish a legacy as a Tag Team, which is almost impossible if Matt and Jeff Hardy compete in an individual capacity.
Furthermore, the Hardy Boyz stated that although they are in great physical shape at this point in their respective careers, the only thing they desire is to plan accordingly and optimize their bodies whenever they can. Pointing out their hectic booking schedule back in the day, Matt and Jeff Hardy believe that had they utilized their physical strength in a planned manner, the sky would have been the limit for them by this point.
The Hardy Boyz TNA Contract: Will They Ever Return to the WWE?
Hardy Boyz returning to the WWE is a dream scenario for the countless number of fans they have in the professional wrestling community. However, their current TNA contract makes it difficult.
According to Fightful Select’s Sean Ross Sapp, Matt and Jeff Hardy signed one-year contracts with TNA on November 27, 2024. The deals allow the iconic duo to maintain their presence in TNA while still working independent dates, giving fans even more chances to see them in action.
Matt Hardy made his return to TNA in May 2024 on a short-term agreement. When Jeff Hardy’s AEW contract expired and he reunited with Matt, the brothers chose to stay. Despite already finding success and capturing championship gold, their contracts weren’t officially finalized until the last moment.
With the hard work and commitment they have inside the squared circle, the Hardys have proven that age is just a number for one of the greatest and most formidable forces in the world of professional wrestling. Only time will tell whether we get to see time once more in either of the main rosters in the WWE.
