Battlefield 6 isn’t even out yet, but players have already indulged in debates. While some players prefer the Open Weapons playlist, there are some players who like the idea of Closed Weapons for better teamplay opportunities. Why Is the Battlefield 6 Community So Obsessed With Closed and Open Weapons?
In the past, the Battlefield franchise was all about keeping Closed Weapons. If you don’t know what that is, it’s basically keeping weapons the same for everyone. This allows the gameplay to be balanced and fair.
However, Electronic Arts took a different direction with Battlefield 2042 by introducing the Open Weapons system. This system allows players to adjust their attachments anytime during the game, allowing them to make the gun feel according to their preference.
The debate started because Electronic Arts revealed in their pre-release patch breakdown that most players prefer the Open Weapons playlist more. Instead of settling the debate once and for all, it just started a wildfire like no other.

Since the data was taken from the beta performance of each gamemode, many players felt displeased. Lead producer of Battlefield 6, David Sirland, also had to step in because many felt the Closed Weapons playlist didn’t get much attention due to playlist tile placement.
Regardless, the most chill people are the casual players, as enjoying the game is the first priority. Be it Closed or Open Weapons, the only thing most are looking forward to is playing the game once it releases.
Opinion: A Closed Weapons Playlist Could Have Improved Battlefield 6
It isn’t like Electronic Arts wants to ditch the Closed Weapons playlist completely; however, it does require more focus. Indeed, the design of the playlist menu during the Battlefield 6 Beta made it hard to access the Closed Weapons playlist.
For long-term fans of the franchise, this playlist has been the default for all. However, following Battlefield 2042, this has changed slightly. Some players like to customize the weapons to fit their preference and playstyle, like Call of Duty does with their loadouts.
Either way, it’s best that Electronic Arts takes this feedback and gives the Closed Weapons playlist the limelight it deserves on full release. For those who like Open Weapons, the option to manually select and enjoy the game. In the end, it’s all about player preference, and design flaws shouldn’t take away the choice.
