John Cena is currently towards the end of his retirement tour, poised to hang up his wrestling boots once and for all. Amongst the many rivalries he’s had during the course of his career, one of the standout feuds he had was with The Miz and his wife, Maryse, back when he was in a relationship with Nikki Bella.
Amongst the many heated promos they had, one moment when it all turned personal was when Maryse posted a photo of herself and her husband on her Facebook profile, which is now restricted. The Miz and Maryse are impersonating Cena and Bella in the post with a caption, “So sad that Hollywood didn’t want John Cena or Nicki Bella”
The Miz and Maryse Created a Spoof During Their Feud Against John Cena and Nikki Bella
The Miz and Maryse’s parody series “Total Bellas Bull****” during their 2017 WrestleMania 33 feud was one of the most hilariously savage segments in WWE history.
The skits were created as a parody of the reality show Total Bellas, with Maryse hilariously portraying both Nikki and Brie Bella with wigs and exaggerated body language, and The Miz as a robotic, rule-obsessed version of John Cena.
With exaggerated acting and purposefully awkward scenes, the parody made fun of everything from Nikki’s fixation on marriage and Brie’s vegan lifestyle to Cena’s stringent house rules.
The objective was unambiguous: to cast doubt on the sincerity of John Cena and Nikki Bella’s relationship and generate excitement for their mixed tag match at WrestleMania, which Cena and Nikki would eventually win, and where Cena famously proposed later.
One of the most recognizable comedic segments from The Miz and Maryse, the spoof is acclaimed for its incisive writing, flawless delivery, and capacity to conflate reality and kayfabe.
Peacemaker 2 Proved Why Maryse’s Insult Is Far From Reality
The standout moment why Maryse posted that photo on her Facebook profile back in the day was due to a heated promo segment where she and her husband, The Miz, clashed with Cena and Nikki Bella.
The confrontation took place during the February 28, 2017, episode of Friday Night SmackDown (via WWE), where The Miz, in an attempt to expose Cena, talked about how he played double standards as soon as he got the call from Hollywood. The Miz shared:
This guy went toe to toe with The Rock. And you read him the ride at. About going off to Hollywood and doing Hollywood things. While John Cena was here, Mr. Hustle, Loyalty, Respect. Never give up. You walked, talked, bleeded, you did everything WWE. Until, John Cena got that phone call from Hollywood. Then a week turned into a month, a month turned into six months and now we can’t see you, John.
However, John Cena’s career on the big screen turned out to be just as successful as he was as a professional wrestler. The latest saga of fame and popularity he received, which establishes the fact that Cena has turned out to be a seasoned actor, is the widespread appreciation he has received for Peacemaker Season 2.
With his witty and charming character in the television series directed by James Gunn, it’s now a fact that Cena is more than a professional wrestler; he is just as good performing different roles as an actor, and the 17-time World Champion cannot be underestimated in that regard. With his retirement from WWE now imminent, only time will tell what further projects he will pursue on the big screen.
