Taylor Swift Reveals Her Mom’s Reaction to The Life of a Showgirl Song About Opening Her Thighs

By Brian Lopez 10/06/2025

Following the release of Taylor Swift’s The Life of a Showgirl, the pop star is making headlines, and it’s time for her mother’s hilarious reaction to one of the steamiest songs on her new album. The track, which many fans believe is about her fiancé, NFL star Travis Kelce, includes some very bold lyrics that raised quite a few eyebrows.

The lusty lines say,

Forgive me, it sounds cocky/ He ah-matized me and opened my eyes/ Redwood tree, it ain’t hard to see/ His love was the key that opened my thighs.

Now, according to Taylor Swift’s appearance on SiriusXM’s The Morning Mash Up, the pop star’s mom completely missed the suggestive meaning. Swift revealed that her mom thought the song was simply about “superstitions”. She then laughed, saying that’s the fun of writing songs with double meanings because people can interpret them however they want.

[She] thinks that that song is about superstitions, popular superstitions, which… it absolutely is. That’s the joy of the double entendre. That song, you could read that song for people and it just goes right over their head. That song you, you see in that song what you wanna see in that song.

So while fans can’t stop talking about the cheeky lyrics, Taylor Swift’s mother is blissfully unaware, thinking it’s just a song about good luck and knocking on wood.

Taylor Swift Opens Up About Embracing Profanity in Her Lyrics

Meanwhile, considering the significantly increased amount of double meaning and profanity in her songs, Taylor Swift reflected on her bolder lyrics. While she was previously known for her powerful songwriting, fans have noticed that her recent songs have more explicit words and stronger emotions.

So, while speaking with SiriusXM’s The Morning Mash Up, Swift reflected on her new album The Life of a Showgirl, and mentioned that she once again used bold and lusty words, and she’s not shy about it. The pop star said that she adds swear words not just for shock value, but to make a song feel more real and intense.

If it… to me improves the intensity of the moment or if, in terms of syllables or just consonance and vowels, if, if to me it pops off more, you know, there are certain lyrics that just bounce more. Or if it feels like it’s a part of the vernacular of how that character that I’m kind of cosplaying in that song would speak.

Like, there are a lot of different reasons you choose to throw in a swear word or like a certain phrase or a sort of alliteration or whatever. But that’s what I love so much about songwriting is those, those decisions are fun and oftentimes hilarious to make.

Taylor Swift explained that sometimes, the sound of a word or how it flows with the rhythm matters as much as its meaning. If a certain word makes the song hit harder or brings out more emotion, she’s all for it. So, explaining that her use of profanity isn’t random, the pop star mentioned that it’s all about what feels right and sounds powerful.

Taylor Swift Breaks Records with Showgirl’s Massive First-Day Sales

And now, with or without profanity, Taylor Swift’s new album The Life of a Showgirl has taken over the music world. And guess what? She did it in just one day. According to Billboard, the album sold a vast 2.7 million copies on its first day, making it the second-highest one-day total for any album ever.

The only artist who has ever sold more in a week is Adele, whose album 25 sold 3.4 million copies in seven days. Taylor Swift, however, reached close to that number in just 24 hours. But that’s not all; The Life of a Showgirl also smashed vinyl sales records. Reports suggest that Swift sold 1.2 million vinyl records in just one day.

In fact, she broke her own record from 2024’s The Tortured Poets Department. Back then, she sold 859,000 vinyl copies in a week, which she has now beaten by a massive 300,000 on day one alone. Well, since we’re talking about her 2024 album, it was her previous biggest album, which sold 2.61 million copies in a week.

Now, with Showgirl, Swift has already passed that number in just one day. The achievement proves that the pop star’s fanbase keeps getting stronger with every release. With six days left in her sales week, there’s a real chance she could beat Adele’s all-time record. Fingers crossed, let’s see what happens.
