After that twist in Peacemaker Season 2 Episode 6, James Gunn ought to answer some of our pressing questions. First of all, Nicholas Hoult‘s Lex Luthor was a pleasant surprise in the episode. We expected to see the Justice Gang in one of these episodes, but not Lex. Now that Lex is here, fans want to know when David Corenswet‘s Superman appears in Peacemaker.

Gunn recently addressed Lex’s appearance during an interview with Variety and even spoke about Corenswet’s appearance. When the interviewer asked whether Corenswet would be seen as the Earth-1 or Earth-X versions of Superman, Gunn shared that Corenswet didn’t join Hoult on the show. He shared, “No. In fact, David was very upset that Nick got to be on the show, and he didn’t. It just didn’t work.”

However, fans aren’t really believing Gunn on that statement. They believe that even if the DCU’s original Superman doesn’t appear in the series, the Earth-X version might appear in the show. We have learned that this alternate dimension universe is a world where the Axis powers won World War II.

It meant that the people of this world are racists and sympathizers of Nazi ideology. And if Gunn were to follow the comics accurately, we would probably get a Nazi Superman called Overman. In the comics, Overman from Earth-X is Kal-L, whose famous rocket from Krypton landed in Nazi-occupied Sudetenland in 1938.

He was raised by Adolf Hitler, and his Kryptonian technology was used by Nazi Germany to win World War II. Interestingly, the comics version of Overman eventually distances himself from Hitler’s ideology. If Corenswet were to appear as the Nazi Overman, we would probably get a fight between him and the Justice Gang.

Why David Corenswet’s Potential Overman Twist Might Pose a Problem for James Gunn?

James Gunn’s biggest problem in introducing David Corenswet as Overman is the sheer power of the character. It means that he will become the biggest threat to John Cena’s Peacemaker on Earth-X, making Corenswet essentially the main villain of the series.

Moreover, Peacemaker will probably have to get help from the original Superman (again played by Corenswet). So, the Peacemaker finale will then have to introduce a Superman vs Overman fight. Fans don’t want to see Corenswet fighting himself, especially after the Superman vs Ultraman fight in the climax of Superman.

Another valid reason to avoid bringing Corenswet as Overman is to put all the focus on Cena. This is essentially his show, and he should get to have the shining moment in the concluding moments of the season. If Gunn decides not to bring Corenswet for all these reasons, we would happily support him.

What Does Lex Luthor’s Peacemaker Appearance Mean for DCU?

The latest episode of Peacemaker saw the biggest cameo saw far. Nicholas Hoult appeared in the sixth episode of Season 2 as Lex Luthor. Rick Flag Sr., wants to find out Peacemaker’s portal to the other dimension. He arrives at Belle Reve to strike a deal with Lex Luthor, promising him to move him to Van Kull, where there are no metahumans.

This meant that the series also served as the beginning of a pivotal plot point for Man of Tomorrow, the sequel to Superman. During his interview with Variety, Gunn shared that Lex’s appearance will serve a major purpose in the Superman sequel, Man of Tomorrow. He shared:

I needed Lex in the show to serve a specific purpose. And actually, what Lex and Rick Flag are up to affects very much what happens in an aspect of Man of Tomorrow. So all of that is connected. But this relationship between Rick Flag and Lex Luthor is a potentially negative thing for Superman and all meta-humans.

Earlier, Gunn and the rest of the Peacemaker cast revealed that the last three episodes of this season would have consequences for the wider DCU. Steve Agee, who plays Economos in the show, told Collider that the “last three episodes” of the season “are so big.” He shared:

There’s a lot going on. I’m afraid to mention anything from the episodes because they’re so spoiler heavy. My hands are sweating, just treading this ground right now. I don’t know what to say.

Jennifer Holland shared with Phase Hero about these three episodes, “A lot happens. A lot is revealed. A lot of consequences.” All these points towards the fact that Peacemaker Season 2 will set up the plot for the other upcoming DCU projects before its third season.
