Playground Games and Turn 10 Studios have always pushed the boundaries of open-world racing, and with Forza Horizon 6, they are aiming higher than ever. This time, the developers want to create a world that feels denser, more alive, and more immersive than anything the series has seen before.

Set in a meticulously crafted version of Japan, the game is being designed to deliver the most authentic Japanese experience yet. With such an ambitious vision, Forza Horizon 6 is already shaping up to be the most impressive entry in the franchise to date.

Forza Horizon 6 Map Might Feature the Biggest World Yet

Forza Horizon 6 is finally taking the series to Japan after giving players massive tours of Mexico, the United Kingdom, and even Australia. One consistent pattern with each release has been the expansion of map scale. For example, Forza Horizon 5‘s map was nearly twice the size of Forza Horizon 4‘s.

The goal with the upcoming game is not only to look at the scale, but also to make the world dense. Art Director, Don Arceta, had a chat with GamesRader+ recently and shared how they want to approach the map. This is what they had to quote:

Like, obviously, we can’t go bigger without filling it with things to do and see, and I think this map that we’ve created for Japan, or Horizon’s version of Japan, is big, but also dense. There’s always something around the corner for you to discover and see. But yeah, it’s bigger. I won’t put a number on it. It is bigger.

It has also been revealed that the iconic settings will feature an authentic Tokyo city, with great vistas of Mount Fuji. The art director also shared that the Tokyo city area is complex and layered, which would be fresh for long-term fans. Additionally, the developers also worked with experts to make the world come to life, which is a bonus.

Developers Want Players To Get a Definitive Japan Tour With Forza Horizon 6

The idea of featuring Japan in the racing franchise has been on developers’ minds for a long time. However, it wasn’t approached until they had made notable advancements and research to build the world. It wasn’t until the release of Forza Horizon 5 Hot Wheels DLC, which gave the developers confidence to try to build the complex world of Japan.

The aim of developers isn’t just to give an adrenaline-pumping racing experience, but also to deliver a tour of Japan that’s breathtaking. This is what Kyoko Yamashita quoted to Xbox Wire:

For locals and people who know Japan well, my hope is recognition: ‘Yes, that’s how it flows.’ Getting that balance right is a way of honoring the culture and the community that loves it.  It really will feel like a first time trip to Japan for players who have never been. We even hope that it might inspire some folks to take a real-world visit.

The Forza Horizon titles aren’t just about racing; it’s about exploring and feeling the beautiful world as well. That’s the tradition Playground Games and Turn 10 Studios are going to continue, and we’re all in for that.
