Akio Iyoku, the main boss behind Dragon Ball DAIMA, recently hinted at the series’ return for a second season. During an interview for the Dragon Ball DAIMA booklet, which was translated and shared by @Venixys on X, Iyoku pointed out that the “Dragon Ball series” will continue, and they are working hard to move it forward.
He stated:
Following this work, of course, we are currently working hard to move various things forward. The “Dragon Ball” series will continue from here on as well, so everyone, by all means, please keep looking forward to it.
Iyoku was more or less the right-hand man of Akira Toriyama, and he was one of the main individuals behind Dragon Ball DAIMA. Therefore, Iyoku seemingly confirming the return of the franchise means Dragon Ball fans will soon get to hear new updates about one of the biggest projects from the franchise in recent years.
What Does Akio Iyoku’s Comment Mean for Dragon Ball DAIMA?
Dragon Ball DAIMA was the sixth televised animated installment in the Dragon Ball media franchise. Not only that, it was also the second and last story written by franchise creator Akira Toriyama, which made it extremely special for fans, as Toriyama sadly passed away before the release of Dragon Ball DAIMA.
However, Iyoku’s comment suggests that they will carry forward Toriyama’s legacy with Dragon Ball DAIMA, and the series will allegedly come back for a second season. While he didn’t give any details about the production or development of the series he was talking about, his comment suggests that they most likely have a premise in mind for Dragon Ball DAIMA that would continue around the same narrative as the first season, which was a major hit.
DAIMA is one of the biggest Dragon Ball projects in recent years, and even though there were some doubts about the story, the series managed to make a big name for itself. It grabbed different elements from different Dragon Ball installments and combined them to form a great narrative that was enjoyed by fans. Now, with the alleged confirmation for the second season, Dragon Ball fans will hope the series follows a similar formula but with a new story.
Dragon Ball DAIMA Might Get an Edge Over Dragon Ball Super
One major question raised from Iyoku’s comments is whether the franchise will give more preference to DAIMA or Dragon Ball Super. The latter was evidently a bigger hit than DAIMA, and the series also has a storyline already in development in terms of the manga. Thus, it would have been easy to adapt Dragon Ball Super and continue the narrative forward.
However, DAIMA will likely be edged over Super because Super’s story has reached an abrupt situation. Following Toriyama’s death, Dragon Ball Super went on an indefinite hiatus, and it only returned a few months ago. However, the plot still has a lot of development left in order to create a story that could generate the same hype as the previous Dragon Ball Super installment.
DAIMA is a relatively new project with only one season under its belt. It has a long way to go, and the plot is fresh. Thus, it would ideally make sense to focus on Dragon Ball DAIMA and let the story of Super get more time to develop before its return.
