Dying Light: The Beast was just released a few days ago, and although most of you are pretty accustomed to zombie games in general, there are a few slip-ups that might ruin your entire experience.
So, we have decided to make a list of ten mistakes that you should avoid as a beginner in Dying Light: The Beast. Without further ado, let’s just jump right into it.
1. Farm XP as Soon as Possible
The first mistake that a lot of new players make in Dying Light: The Beast is that they kind of overlook the entire XP farming system, which is one of the most important mechanics in the game. Unlike the previous game, Dying Light 2: Staying Human, here XP is of the utmost importance, and you will absolutely get destroyed by the Volatiles if you don’t look into it right away.
The best way to farm XP in the early game is to get the entire Explorer gearset, which gives you a +2% XP boost. The extra +2% XP boost might not sound like much, but they stack up really quickly.
2. Find Safe Zones
When the open world in Dying Light: The Beast first opens up, the first thing that you should focus on is unlocking all the Safe Zones in the map. When you first enter the game, you will notice that most of the open world is just free for you to explore, so unlocking these Safe Zones is a no-brainer.
Unlocking these Safe Zones also gives you XP, and you can use the resting places in the Safe Zones to rest and fast-forward the in-game time. Most of these Safe Zones are located on top of buildings, so you can just use your binoculars to locate them.
3. Don’t Forget to Loot Everything
Looting is everything during the early stages of Dying Light: The Be ast
At the beginning of the game, the best place to get loot is by unlocking the Safe Zones, which carry a lot of items and Blueprints. The best way you can get Unique items and gear is by completing side quests.

4. Stamina is the Most Important Resource
Unlike previous Dying Light games, you cannot manually increase your stamina using the skill tree in Dying Light: The Beast, and to increase your stamina, you have to level up as fast as you can. In the game, you use your stamina for basically everything, and you will run out of Stamina very quickly in the early game.
It is better to choose your fights very carefully, because running out of stamina is just a death sentence. This situation does get better as you level up more in the game.
5. Night is Not That Bad
While heading out during the night in Dying Light: The Beast might sound like a bad idea, you will be surprised to know that nighttime just doubles your XP gained. The best way to make the most out of nighttime is by doing main quests because most of these main quests are scripted events, and there will be fewer than usual Volatiles in the early game.
We recommend that you get used to nighttime as much as possible during the early game, so you get the hang of the Volatiles and the parkour mechanics as soon as possible.
6. Don’t Ignore your Skill Tree
The Skill Tree is really important in Dying Light: The Beast, especially during the early game. So, instead of just grabbing every skill that unlocks in the Skill Tree, it is better to just focus on the main skills and unlock them first. This will give you better abilities and a chance to understand which skills you should really focus on.
One of the best skills to grab when you are just starting out is the “Beast Controlled” skill, which literally gives you the control to trigger beast mode whenever you want, so you can save it for bosses and powerful enemies.
7. Just Back Out of the Lock Pick Minigame
Lockpicks are an essential tool in the game, and breaking them during the lock pick minigame can feel kinda devastating, considering you need them to get better loot and gear from locked chests. So, a neat little trick that you can apply to not break your lockpicks is backing out of the minigame.
If the lock is not budging and the lockpick is likely to break, it’s better to simply back out and try again from a new position. To preserve your lockpicks, you can do this as many times as necessary.
8. Upgrade your Bandages and Molotov
Upgrading your gear is also one of the core mechanics in Dying Light: The Beast, and in this game, you should look out for the Manual Pages, which are essential for upgrading and improving the quality of your Blueprints, weapons, or any craftables.
The first things that you should upgrade when you are starting out are your bandages and Molotovs. Bandages are crucial for healing, and upgrading them to the highest possible quality should be your first priority. Upgrading your Molotovs will also come in handy when you need to deal AoE damage to a group of Volatiles.
9. Enhance your Weapons
A major mistake that Dying Light: The Beast players make is that instead of improving and upgrading their weapons, they usually craft new weapons. Now, this is a mistake because weapon enhancement in the game is cheaper than making the same weapon.
Resources in the game are highly crucial, and although you can buy resources from the Vendors, it is better not to waste them on creating new weapons. You should also focus on modding your weapons that will do extra damage.
10. High Ground is your Best Friend
A lot of new players make the mistake of not utilizing their environment to their advantage in Dying Light: The Beast. While there are a lot of advantageous positions in the game, the best place to be when Volatiles are after you is high ground.
You can use your bow to take out most of the Volatile when you are in the high ground, and you can also gather them at a single place and Molotov them to make fights easier.
